Sorry, on first impressions, I don't like her. If she's had all this experience of working with Nobel prize winners and the Dalai Lama etc, what the hell is she doing on this show? Surely, if she's that great, she'd be out there on her own making it in the world of business. Bit of a BS merchant to the extreme methinks.

She has the potential to be really, really annoying.

LOL, Melody will certainly not be a favourite contestant for the female watchers

Luckily I'm a guy and I can appreciate a spunky woman (might be eating those words in a weeks time)

I have heard of a plum in the mouth accent, she sounds as if she has a load of pebbles in hers.

She has the whole privileged Iranian expat thing going on. There is a whole generation of very wealthy Iranians who left when the revolution happened in the 70s and their children tended to go to the best private schools and ended up with these posh English accents.

Here's Melody's company

http://inspirengage.com/about/melodys-bio

Her specialty seems to be motivational speaking aimed at young people - not as 'business-y' as I thought.

Terribly bad advert for posh speaking then!

Their services page is written really badly - some of the sentences don't make any sence with the amount of commas in the wrong places.

Ha ha that page is so full of crap. "worked with 12 nobel peace prize winners" - covers them having a seminar somewhere and her making the tea. "been trained by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, former vice-president Al Gore and UN dignitaries" means she went along to a lecture they gave at her university or business school or her student union one time. I really have no time for people that embellish stuff like this.

Looks like she forgot to pay her web hosting bill on her own website (http://www.melodyhossaini.com/), not that smart a businesswoman.

I don't know, I quite like the sound of her CV. Once you get past the voice (which probably just takes getting used to), I think Melody could be quite a persuasive and articulate speaker and an inspiring leader. Otherwise she wouldn't have achieved the things she has. And time and time again, we've found that it's the better communicators/presenters that tend to succeed in the tasks and in the boardroom. She's got the appropriate qualities for this show.

Oh my *** I actually signed up for an account just to clear this up but I'm glad someone else did earlier. Not gonna claim anyone's being racist just a little ignorant - her accent is simply Iranian, it's not that strange. Speak to a few Iranian people in the next couple of years and you won't find it weird anymore.

Yes it has a bit of a toff-ish lilt to it, but I know a few people that speak like this.

I won't make a sweeping generalisation, but the in-your-face-ness I have also experienced with these same people. They don't mean it in a bad way though.

I think she's quite nice.

I work with Iranians (lovely people) and her accent isn't unusual in that context. From the BBC website:

Born in Iran, Melody lived in three different countries before settling in the UK. Melody who speaks five languages...
I don't like her much, mind you!

I agree, that all the iranians that left iran during the time of the revolution seem to be very affluent. I take it they where well part of the establishment that was overthrown at the time, what else can expalin it?

I know but drinking alcohol is a major no no. She did look uncomftablle when AS mentioned the prize and I read the look on her face as an instant decision to join in so she wouldn't be seen as a party pooper which is a shame people are made to feel like that just for not drinking alcohol.

Oil money is quite likely - Iran was/is an oil rich country and there has always been a wealthy class (who tend to be the ones who move abroad).

I saw that as her just biting the bullet and getting on with it. If her name really is Melody, maybe one of her parents is indigenous english/british?

That's what I thought! If she was that bothered, she could have easily turned it down.
