Bit samey
I liked that they changed the prize from a job to investment, means less sales people and a bit more about being an actual entrepreneur. But in the end I was left a bit cold by the first episode, after 7 series it's all becoming a bit too 'this has all happened before'. Or is it just me?

Tonights episode is new - they've never done done a phone app task before. I can't remember it happening before so I think it's all-new.
Be interesting to see how well the show does in the ratings. It's possible some people may be bored of the show due to it feeling a bit samey but it does seem popular. |

I think you're right OP, as soon as Ed picked up the poison chalice of PM I thought "He's fired then"
I would rather that karen and Nick nominate 1 each from each team, (winning and losing) to go into boardroom with losing PM, too many times there are awful candidates on the winning team that escape the radar, Edna last night as an example. looking forward to task tonight though, as its a new challenge, to see how 'creative' they can be. |

However, As soon as Edward's complete lack of a plan, and "I don't have to show I can do numbers" started coming out, it was obvious they were unlikely to win, and he was definitely the right one to go. I'm also not convinced that WINNING week one as a PM really helps in the long term. By the end of the series, anything good they achieved so early on is liable to have been forgotten. |

I felt the same, manforktorch. Though the prize is a new one there is nothing new about the programme. Not much fun so far either but we have only had one episode so there is plenty of time.

Same old same old. Although it does not mean it needs to change, and certainly not one episode in.
Series 6 of the American apprentice (the original "apprentice"), saw gimmicks introduced such as the winners living in a mansion and the losers living in a tent in the garden of the mansion. There was no series 7. There is a lesson in there. |

I enjoyed the first episode although i'd like to see new tasks and more explanations. Maybe I had a micro sleep but I was left wondering where the bread rolls came from...

I also hate the way they now edit it so it looks like one team are winning, then they lose! I like the editing to reflect what actually happened! |

I thought the same. The editing was all over the place.

That isn't new, it happened last year for certain.
Preferred it when they hinted who could win or at least left it a bit ambiguous. Now the rule seems to be, make it look like one team wins, then they lose. |

I knew as soon as the boy's team's results were delivered first, then the poor pasta sales were announced before those for the fruit salad, that the girls would end up winning. It's a tactic that's becoming very overused in the boardroom now!

Well it is what it is..."that's Torquay madam, what did you expect to see??,...Krakatoa erupting, herds of wildebeest...."
I thought last night's show was a good introduction with quite a few laugh-out-loud moments to lure me into another series. |

I like that the PM picks who comes back in. It shows whether or not they are able to spot the weak links or if they are snakes who bring people in tactically. It's not just the task that reveal things about the candidates but also how they react when they lose.

Yeah PM in week one is asking for trouble.Lordsuralun's got no previous weeks to look at so the PM has to get blamed for the failure.
Historically, the team leaders for the first task are more likely to go on to reach the final four, than to be fired. Quote:

Believe it or not, in the long run it's talent that matters. If you are good, you'll be a good leader in the first task and the last task. If you're rubbish, you'll get fired as soon as the spotlight falls on you. Avoiding being leader just delays the inevitable and makes you look bad.Quote:

I know it isn't new, but it is a recent-ish thing. I noticed it a lot last year, seems it's the same this year.

But surely that didn't happen this time? The boys were obviously poor in the edit, and Edward was obviously the worst of them. There was no twist.
Obviously this happened, it's just how it is edited that made me think the boys were ahead. |

Much preferred this task, I think that was mainly down to being a new and interesting task.

Nah, I think they got a good edit, it looked to me like they were ahead as they were going on about selling a lot and the edit of the girls was basically making it look like they'd not bought enough stock and were selling none of the vegetable thingy ma jig.
Obviously this happened, it's just how it is edited that made me think the boys were ahead. Same this week. The girls had the better idea, it had global appeal, and they won the web site that mattered. It was obvious they would win. (Who would be fired was less obvious.) |
