The problem with creatively failed network series like V and The Event getting reprieves on cable channels like SyFy and TNT is that it diverts original-production cash from new series that may be creative successes.
Of course, one person's failure is another's success but when a series is widely viewed as creatively and commercially disappointing (as both these two are) I just don't see the point in perpetuating them. I'd rather see the money spent on new series that may turn out to be spectacular. |

If I missed it while skimming through the thread I am sorry, but has The Mentalist been renewed for a 4th season?

The reboot was not a patch on the original Mini-series. |

I'd prefer they went with V: The Next Generation - aka Kenneth Johnsons follow up.

The reboot was not a patch on the original Mini-series. Too much talking about human emotion and the soul etc. Like the V's (a term I've never liked either) were robots. How did they evolve without emotions? without hunger they'd have starved, without fear they'd have been predated into extingtion, without some kind of urge to reproduce they'd have died out. it's nonsense. |

Yes, Blue Bloods has been renewed but the creative people behind it have not. Apparently the network want to alter the style of the show and the creators disagreed. So I have some concerns about series 2 if the plan is to turn it into just another procedural.

Interesting, I didn’t know this. So what are the network changing about the show? Are they scrapping the ‘family’ element and focusing more on the crime?

The family element was a bit Waltons like with the big family dinner and all that. But it did make the show a bit different from other cop shows. Without the family element it could be very run of the mill.

I didn't like the whole family scenes at the table because I found the three kids (especially the girl) totally annoying and utterly pointless. I did however like the family aspect that would often take place in the kitchen between just two or three characters (usually Selleck and one of his kids).
That said, I heard they bumped Amy Carlson from guest to regular for Season 2. If this is true, wouldn't that lend to more family stuff, since she is not in law enforcement? Her role this season, outside of the odd episode where she was pivotal, seemed to be nothing more than cooking the chicken and telling the two brats to behave. By giving her a more prominent role would suggest more family/personal stuff rather than less. My only gripe with the show is the lack of realism that most cases manage to involve the whole family. If anything, it's surely less likely that the other family members would get involved once one family member has the initial lead on a case. |

The blue templar thing was a bit silly and didn't really fit in with the rest of the show. Although that seems to have been on the back burner recently. I hope they find a way to resolve that storyline quickly. This show could hardly get any more procedural. There is a crime a week. They interview a bunch of suspects, one confresses and they all live happily ever after. simples. |

Otherwise the rest of the family stuff isn't that bad and makes the show different to the usual procedural. It just stretches credibility a little when in a city of thousands of police and lawyers they all get involved in the same case each week. |

Really? I really enjoyed the first season but thought the second season was a load of rubbish and thought it would be cancelled. |
