The Listener has been renewed for a third season today
Really?

I really enjoyed the first season but thought the second season was a load of rubbish and thought it would be cancelled.
I really enjoyed S1 too, but after on-off renewal and a 2 year wait, S2 never lived up to it. I don't know if the writers or showrunners changed but none of the story from S1 were carried over like Toby's backstory or how his telepathy developed (I've not watched the finale yet tho).
It just became a procedural "read the bad guys thoughts" episode each week

Yes, Blue Bloods has been renewed but the creative people behind it have not. Apparently the network want to alter the style of the show and the creators disagreed. So I have some concerns about series 2 if the plan is to turn it into just another procedural.
The family element was a bit Waltons like with the big family dinner and all that. But it did make the show a bit different from other cop shows. Without the family element it could be very run of the mill.
I agree its good Blue Bloods is being renewed but why bother if they're gonna mess with it (see my post above ^^ )
The family element does give it something different - theres plenty straight forward "get the bad guy / buddy cop / moody cop / stereotype cop" shows on elsewhere.

tbh although people talk about things getting picked up by someone else and they never do.

i mean even when theres talk of a special to tie up lose ends those rarely seem to happen, like with heroes.

i would love to see lie to me keep going and it could even fit in at a premium channel, which with give the team a bit more freedom but it will prob just end and get replaced with some that gets cancelled.

The problem is they did too much damage to 'Lie to Me' with the character change and the less dramatic storylines.

I just think the family thing on Blue Bloods makes it a little different. Yes it is quite formulaic but there is something that i just really enjoy about the show ( not just Will Estes ..... double yum)

The few shows I care about are safe, aside from Fringe, which is almost certainly dead.

Fringe is certainly far from dead the latest from WB is its likely they will be reducing the cost of the show to fox enabling Fox to grant a season 5.
If anything recent comments from both Fox and WB indicate that another season is more likely then not. The bigger question is will it be a reduced season say 13 episodes or a fulll 22 episodes.

I think we need to be realistic. The show is dropping and dropping in the ratings. It will be cancelled and we need to be prepared. Sad!

The CW has order 3 pilots (All of them remakes in one form or another)

The Carrie Diaries: A Sex & The City Prequel. Cause' prequels always work.

Green Arrow: But without Smallville's Justin Hartley.

Beauty & The Beast: Remake of 80's classic starring Linda Hamilton.

Surely one has gotta get picked up. So i wonder who will be shown the door? 90210 & Nikita look on shaky ground just going by the ratings.

I just want them to keep Gossip Girl for one more season I know ratings are terrible, but it does well on iTunes, DVD sales etc..

also those 3 shows I couldn't see them lasting more than 1 season, they don't sound good

Well its only had 1 episode since its break so we cant say yet, the second half of the season always picks up viewers. They wont let the show go out on a cliff hanger a short maybe 13 episode 5th season to finsh it up is the most likely outcome at the moment going by comments from both W/B and Fox.

Gossip Girl and Nikita are the 2 lowest rated shows on The CW. GG is more likely to get a renewal.

Supernatural will get renewed for a likely final season (the stars have already extended thier contracts from 6 to 8 seasons and viewership is diminishing).

Vampire Diaries will definately be back with Secret Circle.

Although ratings aren't amazing for either Hart of Dixie and Ringer will likely get renewed with OTH and possibly GG or 90210 going they'll want to keep any other dramas around (OTH finishing will give a lifeline to both 90210 and GG).

I think next season the network will lose alot of shows (Supernatural, GG, 90210, Nikita if its still there) it's new shows need to be really strong. They should even consider reviving other shows or trying sitcoms again.

hope you are right about GG getting renewed the stars only have 1 more year left on their contracts anyway, so just hoping they'll keep it for 1 more.

viewiership for supernatural is all over the place in my opinion because it gets thrown about so much, next episode is like 2 weeks away, The CW dont care therefore itll lose viewers. Thats just my opinion

i think the 2 week break is because it came back so early after Christmas, Vampire Diaries is on break too. just so the other shows can catch up.

It's nothing new and Supernatural has just won two awards and remains one of the most solid rating shows for the CW. It's not in the same danger of cancellation as it was in its first couple of seasons. I imagine if it does go this year it'll be because the cast don't want to continue, rather than due to poor ratings.

As has been said, all the shows on the CW, and other channels, go through these breaks. It was much worse years ago. These days there are larger blocks of new viewings and usually bigger breaks over Christmas.

One of the best comedies of all time, well worth watching if you've not seen it

Such a shame they decided to cancel, the reasons why they have done this are beyond me
