Oh i didn't know FOX does not own the show. That does make sense.

Well summed up. A lot of the above posts don’t seem to recognise that The Mindy Project wasn’t produced or distributed by FOX. Therefore if it wasn’t performing well for them FOX would obviously cancel it, regardless of how close to syndication it is as there’s no money to be made by them if it gets to syndication.
The Mindy Project is produced or distributed by NBC Universal, so it’s in their interest to get it to syndication. And as FOX haven’t ordered a 4th season it’ll be in NBC Universal’s interest to find another broadcaster... which is where the HULU (might) come into the equation.

As for E4, and other international broadcasters, nothing changes. If NBC Universal produce a 4th season then it’s E4’s decision whether to buy the rights or not, just as it was for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd seasons.

Studios often do deals to secure enough episodes for syndication, Sony practically gave away episodes of Til Death to FOX in order to secure enough episodes for syndication and Rules of Engagement which was co-produced by Sony and CBS ended after 100 episodes exactly

What is the magic number for syndication? Does it vary between dramas and comedies?

It used to be 100 but now 88 episodes is the norm but it varies, children's TV series tend to be capped at 52-65 episodes unless they're hugely popular.

Mindy has 67 episodes so it needs 21 episodes for syndication so Hulu would order two seasons with 10 episodes but they could make the final episode an hour long so it could split into two parts then it would be exactly 88 episodes.

I thought this was being developed by another network? Is this the show by Marc Cherry? I was looking forward to it.

Same here.

I'm hoping another network picks it up, like Netflix did with Longmire.

Happy about HTGAWM. Shield and The Middle (totally underrated in my view).

Greys and Shield two no-brainers really, so happy with that. Still waiting to hear about CSI though.

Galavant got a renewal. Now that is a surprise. It didn't do well at all. ABC must see potential.

All the other renewals and cancellations are no surprises.

Sorry to hear about Forever and Resurrection. Not two of the all-time greats, but I liked them.
