to be fair Lost got a reduced order for season 4,5 and 6 so it could still carry on for at least season 6

i imagine PoI has been cut to accommodate either CSI Cyber or Supergirl.

I disagree. I acknowledge that Sky usually prioritise their sports rights, but by their own admission they’re focusing more and more on their entertainment offerings (as they lose more and more sports rights to other broadcasters).
Hawaii Five O is one of Sky One’s top 3 programmes almost every week, getting almost a million viewers. News of its renewal for a 6th season will certainly be welcomed by them.

Not bad for a programme that they only got the rights to because they inherited them from Bravo when they bought the channel (before Bravo had the chance to broadcast the first season of Hawaii Five O).

Good idea. You should start one.

I will probably try a couple of new shows but there's none so far from the trailers that I can't wait to see.

I remember that - I think they did the deal for X amount of episodes to finish it off and just divided that number up into season-sized chunks for the remainder.

Could well be the same for POI i guess.

Cool that Elementary has been renewed but a big shame that Stalker has gone, I am really enjoying that

I've taken a look at the Fox trailers for new shows and must say that Lucifer really does appeal to me.

Having read the less than enthusiastic response from the purist comic book fans plus the fact that Tom Ellis, who isn't my most favourite actor was starring in the lead role, I'd written it off in my mind already.

However, I found the trailer very good and it certainly looks a winner to me.

Minority Report looks a decent adaptation of the film although given how futuristic procedurals have not fared well on FOX, I'm not sure if it'll last beyond the first season.

It's interesting how many TV adaptations of films have taken place with two on CBS alone. I wonder with the 50th Anniversary coming up, if a Star Trek series might be in the planning on either CBS or The CW since CBS has the rights to do another television series although I imagine if they were to use elements from the new films, it would have to be a co-production with Paramount.

I can't stand Tom ellis either but he really impressed me in the trailer. Maybe he has had acting lessons since making the move to the US.

ABC announce schedule. Not many changes really. Thursdays and Wednesdays remain the same. Out of the shows due for fall, I am only interested in Kings and Prophets but that is based on description, as the trailers are not out yet. The Muppets one screams Flop for me and believe it or not, it's been placed in the same slot that Selfie and Manhattan Love story was in and they bombed. I had hoped Fresh off the boat would of been moved. It wasnt a total flop for it's tuesday placing, but it's demo's could of been higher. If i had my way, i would of moved it to wednesdays and swapped it with one of ABC's veteran comedy shows. Either Modern Family or The Middle.

The Muppets are a familiar title which is a big advantage over Selfie and MLS and also owned by Disney so they're likely to be more patient with it although the last Muppet TV series Muppets Tonight wasn't successful so I'm wary but the fact a series was ordered without a pilot is a good sign

The trailers are out

Dr Ken and The Catch look really good.

Of Knights and Prospects looks bloody expensive. The type of show you would expect HBO to do, but without the sex and swearing.

He's certainly had something happen to improve. His acting is miles ahead to where it used to be.

Both him and Rob Kasinsky are being given real opportunities in the States. Rob's modern retelling of Frankstein series also looks promising.

The Star Trek boards forum say not. Apparently CBS do not want a Star Trek series at present with the movie franchise still running as they think doing movies and TV shows in the 90s diluted the product. CW would love to do a show though it seems. Jonathan Frakes was saying he has tried to get one running but has had no sign of interest from CBS. Though given his track record (Thunderbirds!) maybe it was just his project they were not interested by.

For the 50th anniversary to have no Star Trek on TV just seems wrong. Even a TV movie would have been nice.

Interesting to note on this point that one of the projects that Bryan Fuller was pitching around town before making Hannibal (and Mockingbird Lane for NBC) was a new Star Trek series. It was, from all reports, a fairly extensive pitch that he was giving as well and indeed he still talks about a new Trek series being something he wants to do. However, the general story at the time was that the series never got off the ground because Paramount (possibly prompted by Abrams) didn't want a series running alongside the films.

I think its probably inevitable that there'll be a new Star Trek series sooner rather than later though particularly in this new age of 'universe building' franchises and the networks general love of any kind of known brand.

I think if it does eventually happen I imagine CBS will get first dibs as it would probably be too expensive to do on The CW and Showtime isn't the right fit either. The fact they picked up Supergirl and they've got two relatively successful sci fi shows airing in the summer with a third on the way does show CBS do go outside their comfort zone.

It's unlikely to happen since the films are still ongoing but I think a Mission Impossible series would be cool but the rights like Star Trek are a little complicated as Paramount owns the film rights but CBS owns the television rights

I don't think a Star Trek series would be too expensive for The CW (and Enterprise aired on pre-CW UPN). In fact I'd suggest its the kind of property that has been doing well for The CW as of late and fits the general model at work there. Its genre and a known brand with international appeal that should prompt strong international sales. And as an added bonus its the kind of series that would likely stream well which would help extend The CW's big deal with Netflix in the US. I suspect however that it might now be considered too big a brand to settle on The CW. Its also worth remembering that just because CBS TV Studios own the rights to a Trek series it doesn't mean that it can only land on CBS or The CW. While those are certainly the most likely options at this point its not impossible that it could find a home elsewhere and outside of the CBS corporate family.

In terms of universe building shows I think the question is when does ABC/Disney pull the trigger on some kind of (live action) Star Wars series. To be honest I'm surprised they haven't yet. The appeal of having Marvel and Star Wars branded shows on the air at the same time must be huge although I suppose they may just be waiting to see how the new film does before going all in. And Fox of course seem to be slowly but surely pushing forward with a plan to extend their X-Men universe onto television which certainly isn't a bad shout on their part. I also won't be entirely surprised if we see Sony put a Men in Black series into development at some point in the near future (although plans are apparently on going for a fourth film). This general craze of universe creation and small screen reboots/continuations opens up some fun corporate synergy.

It has probably already been said, but 'Marry Me' has officially be cancelled.

CBS TV Studios haven't really broaden outside of CBS and CW with the exception of Power on Starz and a few cable series. Medium was the last CBS TV Studios series that didn't originally air on CBS but that originally was produced by Paramount Television and that folded into CBS TVS when they split from Viacom. I'd say a Star Trek series would likely use the same model as Under the Dome and Extant, if Supergirl is a hit, I think CBS would likely be interested in doing at leasta pilot for a new Star Trek series.

George Lucas was developing a Star Wars live action series before Disney bought LucasFilm but cost was the main factor, it would require major investment to do a live action Star Wars series on a television budget.

Wasn't Fox's main issue with Marvel is that they're not willing to give them the TV rights to X-Men? MIB would be interesting especially if Minority Report, Limitless or Rush Hour click with viewers.
