I believe MGM has the rights to Clarice Starling because they distributed the film version of Silence of the Lambs whereas Dino De Laurentiis who originally produced Manhunter and also Hannibal and Red Dragon owns the rights to Hannibal Lecter but he passed on making Silence of the Lambs but loaned the rights to Hannibal to the producers of Lambs for free.

On the subject of Hannibal a couple of things should be noted
Firstly it should be noted that a large part of the reason NBC picked up both a second and third season of the show was to try and avoid embarrassment. They were aware of how critically beloved the show was and that there was a lot of interest from various outlets about picking the series up should NBC pass on it. The nightmare for them was that they dropped it, it landed somewhere else and was a breakout. With three seasons under their belt they can safely say they tried as hard as the could but it just didn't work out. The second point to keep in mind is that the show remains very cheap to produce and that as long as the international co-production model stays in place I'd be a little bit surprised if someone else doesn't pick it up. Either a streaming service (Amazon are the likely candidates there) or a smaller cable network in search of scripted content of which there are many that fit the bill. The stumbling block for this though may prove to be Bryan Fuller's involvement going forward. He was expected to scale back his work on Hannibal next season for American Gods (part of the reason NBC opted not to move forward) which could give some outlets pause for thought. A rescue may require Fuller fully recommitting to season four. At this stage I'd remain relatively optimistic about Hannibal's future but we'll see what happens. |

Any news on whether Sy-Fy UK have picked up the final six-episode season of Continuum, and if so how long do they plan to make us wait for it??
Also apologies if it's already been mentioned as not gone through the entire thread but The Last Ship returns on TNT Friday June 21st, I assume Sky wil lpick that up? |

News has come to light that ABC will decide on the fate of The Whispers this week/early next week. This is because cast contracts for the show run out at the end of this month. Sources say it is looking very good for a renewal.

AMAZON have passed on Hannibal. They confirm they are not interested in an established show and only wish to pursue their own original creations only.

Seems weird given basically nobody's watching their originals, but more power to them...

Amazon passing on Hannibal could potentially mean it won't be saved. Reading the article on DS, they did say that they felt that Amazon were the best option.
The ratings and 'niche' aspect of the show may well prevent any streaming service stepping in to save it as they'd probably look at whether or not it would potentially bring them any new subscribers for one thing. |

Apart from Transparent, their originals could be a lot better.

It's funny but even though I know Hannibal is a good show I usually have to force myself to watch.

International co-productions have had mixed success recently. Dracula (UK/US), didn't work - cancelled after 1 short season. Transporter: The Series (lost count how many countries were/are involved in this!), sort of worked - 2 seasons and potentially a 3rd. Strike Back (UK/US), very successful - 4 seasons (5 if you count the UK produced only series). |

What exactly is the international co-production element of Hannibal? Its wiki page doesn't really say... What other countries/broadcasters are contributing towards production costs, and de we know the percentages?

The Lizzie Borden Chronicles cancelled by Lifetime. Despite being billed as a limited series, it had an option for more seasons but it was a ratings flop.
Lifetime really need more original shows. They only have Devious Maids. They also have Unreal but that is doing awful in the ratings as well and will likely be axed. I bet they regret cancelling Army Wives, which was actually their highest rated show. Despite being on for seven seasons and losing most of the original actresses, it was still clocking in 2-3 million an episode. |

Transparent renewed for a third season, and the second has not even began filming yet.
I wonder why season 2 has yet to be filmed. They filmed season 1 through spring and summer last year. The show premiered last August, so my guess is, season 2 won't premiering until much later. |

Surprised that's been renewed. That got seriously panned by the critics and i don't think it even did good viewing figures.
I'm interested in the subject matter, and this means that the Manson storyline can be developed even more. I still haven't watched all of Season 1 but will enjoy it even more now. |

Wayward Pines is in discussions for a second season. But due to being filmed back in 2013 and the cast all having moved on, it may prove to be difficult.
