Very pleased that hart of Dixie got renewed, however I'd like it if it had a revamp with new characters, a few new sets and a brand new executive producer too. Maybe have Rebecca Sinclair as she revamped and refreshed 90210 - it worked as it gave the show a bit of a future when it had it.

I'm not sure if the CW are going to put that much of a effort with this show.

The CW is basically following the syndication model.

TNT has renewed the hit drama series Dallas for a third season. Produced by Warner Horizon Television, Dallas centers on the Ewing clan, an enormously wealthy Texas family whose sibling rivalries, romantic betrayals, corruption and even murder are truly legendary. TNT has ordered 15 episodes for the third season, which is slated to launch in early 2014.

Hmm... http://www.spoilertv.com/2013/04/nik...s-with-cw.html

Quote:
“Nikita's future is at risk, Warner Brothers' negotiations with the CW seems to have paused as the CW evaluates its pilots and decides how many to pick up for next season.

The CW could pick up as many as 5 pilots to series (in addition to "The Originals" which will not need significant marketing given its relation to "Vampire Diaries") and its renewal is unlikely to come long before the upfronts as WB may have a 'package deal' with the CW for renewing Nikita and series orders for its pilots: 'The Tomorrow People', 'The Selection' and 'The Hundred' all of which are said to have a shot.
There is a small chance Nikita could be cancelled and a full season order doesn't seem to be on the table at this point but it could comes close, the episode count will once again depend on how many pilots the CW picks up and could be anywhere from 6 to 18 episode. For now WB executives are hoping CBS pilots Blink, Company Town, Oxygen and Reign do not test well”

I was under the impression that once Nikita made Season 3, a 4th Season was all but confirmed anyway because it would mean the show would go in to syndication and make the CW more money.

Fingers crossed that happens.

CW is probably playing hardball and/or wants to pick up more pilots.

I don't see Nikita being cancelled and it will probably get 13 episodes.

I hope Nikita gets picked up

Supernatural, Arrow Vampire diaries, Hart of Dixie and Beauty are all safe
Gossip girl has finished
90210 is close to ending
Cult is cancelled

That just leaves Nikita and The Carrie diaries

Considering The carrie diaries had even lower ratings than Nikita, they should save Nikita. Even if they place it at mid season with just a short season. The should use Nikita has a backup in case one of their new shows bomb early on in the fall.

It is nailed and by all accounts the only reason it wasn't announced with HoD & BaTB is that the show runner wasn't available when the network was doing the pitch meeting for the next season which are required for all shows before a formal decision is made. When that pitch meetings been done they will cross the t's and dot the i's and it will be renewed.

Technically it needs 21 episodes to reach the magic 88 for syndication but I wouldn't be surprised if it gets a shorter order as anything over 80 should be fairly easy to sell

I'm actually slightly surprised The Carrie Diaries hasn't been renewed, not because the ratings justify it but because it was such a idiotic decision to pick it up in the first place and the CW have in the past shown that they stick by their obvious mistakes in the misguided belief that it will stop the initial decision from looking bad.

I said last year that I didn't think the pilot would be picked up as it had flop written all over it due to

- Being a prequel to a premium cable show from the 90’s meaning most of the CW target audience wouldn't have seen the source show during the initial run so there is a lack of connection for the average viewer
- Hardly any of their target demo would have had any really experience of the 80’s so the nostalgia aspect is lost. The Gossip Girl prequel had already failed in test screenings due largely to the 80’s setting.

And I can't understand how the cw execs failed to see that

VEEP was renewed for a 3rd season today. The 2nd season is currently underway and apparently ratings have been quite good.

Veep is OK but I can't help feeling that it could be better.

I suppose that over here it is always going to be compared to The Thick Of It but it does seem to be doing very well for an American audience.

Good to see Parenthood renewed. Anyone I know who watches it really likes it.
Shame it's not on over here in the UK. Can't be that expensive to buy ?

It was on 5*. But ratings sucked. And for a continuing drama about a (somewhat depressing) subject matter, with no big name stars to get picked up at all is a surprise really...

You're kidding, right?

Several big name TV stars.

I've enjoyed the second season a bit more, seems a bit more natural. I think the actors have gotten over the shock of being allowed to be offensive, and aren't trying so hard.

"jolly green jis face" really cracked me up this week.

No, not really. The biggest star is Craig T. Nelson, and I doubt if you were to pluck somebody off the street they'd recognise him...

Have I missed it or is there still no UK pickup for this ?
Given its BBC America why aren't the BBC showing it even its BBC3 or BBC4 if no other UK broadcaster will buy it.

No UK pick up, BBCW owns the rights, the BBC would have to buy the rights from BBCW...

BBC America is a co-producer with Canada's Space channel, but the actual production company making the show is Canada's Temple Street Productions. I think it is the production company that actually sells their shows to secondary (foreign) buyers, but these co-productions are always a big mess when it comes to rights issues so who really knows.

It's normally the distributor who sells international and DVD rights, rather than the production company, but I don't know enough about Orphan Black to comment. Even if BBC America was the distributor, the rights wouldn't necessarily default back to BBCW (BBC America is a partnership between BBCW and Discovery Networks).

Having said that it will by released on DVD in the US by BBCW...

But who is the distributor here? I know that when UK channels buy American network shows they don't deal with the networks and instead deal with the big studios that the production companies have deals with (that I still count as buying from the production company, if indirectly). The question is, has Temple Street Productions made a deal with a larger entity to distribute the show internationally? I know that in the case of the recent Canadian-Irish co-production Vikings (commissioned by the American channel History) it was announced that the Hollywood studio MGM would handle international sales.

I don't know who the distributor is, and I can't work it out either. All the BBC press releases I can find say simply that " Orphan Black is produced by Temple Street Productions in association with BBC AMERICA and SPACE."

Edit: Just checked the Temple Street Productions site, it links to BBC Worldwide as distributor (and I did find a mention of it at a BBC Worldwide sales event). So we can assume BBCW is actually the distributor
