I prefer it being the same characters etc, as we get invested more, however I do agree that Vegas has benefited from the new ones.

I do know Hill Harper wont be returning *if* it does.

On another note - I completely missed that Criminal Minds has been renewed!

Spoilertv says The Cleveland Show has been cancelled, I thought that wasn't confirmed yet?

I said last year that I didn't think the pilot would be picked up as it had flop written all over it due to

- Being a prequel to a premium cable show from the 90’s meaning most of the CW target audience wouldn't have seen the source show during the initial run so there is a lack of connection for the average viewer
- Hardly any of their target demo would have had any really experience of the 80’s so the nostalgia aspect is lost. The Gossip Girl prequel had already failed in test screenings due largely to the 80’s setting.

And I can't understand how the cw execs failed to see that”

TCD though, that IS a surprise. The CW can't be that confident in some of its pilots.”

See I knew the TCD renewal was coming. As I said in my post was such an obvious mistake in the first place to pick it up that it seemed fairly likely they would try and save face by renewing it. Now when it ends after season 2 they will be able to claim it wasn't an idiotic decision.

I used to like the NY cast and felt they made it stand out but when Sela Ward replaced Melina Kanakaredes it just seemed the cast fell apart and no longer seemed to gel.

Actually much in the same way that when the Vegas cast stopped working as a Unit once William Peterson and Gary Dourdan left the show.

It seems to be with the CSI's that you need the right actors to create a complete unit and if you miscast just one person (As they have with Sela Ward and did with Laurence Fishbourne - Athough I do think Fishbourne might have worked if they hadn't decided to make him a complete rookie as he has too much authority about him to have been believable) its like a house of cards.

Fishbourne would've been great as the new Grissom, rather than a newbie like you say.

Sela Ward just doesn't fit in with the team at all, I've thought that since day one.

Nikita picked up for 6 episodes? wtf? I thought they needed a full season??

65 is the key figure as that gives them 13 weeks of content with it airing 5 nights a week. This obviously fits in perfectly for 4 dull airings a year. This is the reason you see most kids cartoons given a 65 episode order and no further episodes produced.

However they will usually want more for a prime time show because while there is unlikely to ever be a reason why a cartoon can't be shown in its syndicated time slot an episode of a prime time show may be unsuitable even with cuts for the time slot (You actually see it here on e4 in the daytime where the odd episode will never be shown in its daytime slot) which is why they usually aim for around 80 episodes

Totally agree on both points... NY is still my fav of the CSI franchise but it stopped being "cancel all my plans to watch it" tv when Sela Ward joined.

Totally! I can take or leave episodes with her in it now, however Melina ones I love.

I've seen every episode with Melina in at least twice, I never get bored of them... Stella Bonasera is in my top 3 favourite female tv characters of all time.

I wasn't really much of a Stella fan, so when she left and Jo came in, I initially quite liked the change.

What I am starting to really hate about Jo is this faux friendship with Mac that is almost at times hinting at love.

She has only been around 5 minutes but the way she carries on you would think they had been friends for 20 years.

Generally it's 100 episodes, with 80 being the bare minimum. Though I imagine if you only air one episode a night, that can come down...

I think "Up All Night" was dead in the water anyway after all the trouble surrounding it. Disappointed to see Whitney go though as I actually quite liked that - wasn't hysterical, but was certainly funny enough for me.

ABC won't be going ahead with Murder in Manhattan but are trying to sell it on to another network so it may get to air somewhere yet.

That'll teach me to read the last few pages - didn't see that Nikita has been "renewed" as well. 6 episodes seems a bit daft, but maybe, apart from the financial implications of syndication, the thinking is that it'll get a "mini series" of sorts to wrap it all up.

So does that mean with nikita only getting 6 EPS it probably wont be renewed again and its basically just to tie up the show?

There's no way on earth it would get another season.

100 hasn't been true for a long time,if it was actually ever the figure. The number networks look for has never really been confirmed and much of its a myth although obviously the more episodes the better. I suspect that part of the reason for the 100 myth is a 5 seasons gets you to 100 and a lot of shows end at the 5th season but this is more to do with the talent (both behind and in front the camera) having Union agreed pay increases and bonus due when the show enters its 6th season

As I said animation series are usually front sold with 65 episode orders which seems the best indication of the required amount. As I said though prime time shows will have epsiodes that can't be edited to suit the slot so needs a few extra in the bank.

Nikita will have 67 at the end of this season so 73 after the 6 episodes next season so well below 100 and a fair few below 80 but even with unsuitable episodes removed will fit in with the 65 figure

I don't know. There has been a significant drop in how well even procedurals repeat to a level where a limited run series airing during a shows hiatus actually starts to make more sense than showing repeats as the extra ad revenue offsets the extra cost. Its why we are seeing a rise in limited run series being commissioned. (And most likely why the CW has picked up a normal amount of new shows BUT has cancelled fewer than normal)

If Nikita can keep the costs under control and the limited run status doesn't impact the ratings then I wouldn't be too surprised if we got a 5th season. A 6th mind you I would guess is unlikely as the cast/crew pay rises and bonuses will make it harder for it to make financial sense

Judging by last night's ratings, Hannibal has very little chance of renewal.
