I’m slightly surprised, not really at its cancellation, but at how sudden it’ll be removed from the schedules. It sounds like it’s all down to the fact contracts are due for renewal... which is a shame because it would have been nice for them cover the election before leaving the airwaves.
I also didn’t know Larry Wilmore was the original executive producer/showrunner of CBS’s ‘Black-ish’ – maybe in hindsight he should have stayed with that job.
Surely the fact that Trevor Noah’s ‘Daily Show’ is a shadow of Jon Stewart’s incarnation has played a major role in the cancellation of ‘The Nightly Show’? It was struggling with a much stronger lead-in, it isn’t surprising that following a weaker lead-in has resulted in it’s cancellation.
It’ll be interesting to see what Comedy Central choose to do with the 11:30pm slot now... I suspect they might not create a replacement show and instead promote to ‘@midnight’ (yes, I know the name might be a bit of an issue to overcome!). Or they could promote one of their existing stars – although they’ve just lost Jessica Williams, who in my mind was their only obvious choice given that John Oliver and Stephen Colbert are long gone now.
