Really disappointed about 1600 Penn, I think that had potential. Skip was the most loveable f--kup imo. But think that carried the show to certain extent, his scenes were the most entertaining I think. Was surprised by the low ratings when I saw them.

Gutted about The New Normal. Expected 1600 Penn, TNN was a shock, and really going to miss it. Especially as I have girl crush on NeNe Leakes. (Thank god she is returning to Housewives of Atlanta).

Shows however aren't always breakout hits immediately. How I Met Your Mother was always on the bubble for the first 4 seasons as was Castle for the first couple. Even NCIS was far from a monster hit at first yet reached a point where it was regularry the hightest rated scripted show each week and spawned a spin off that was a ratings smash out of the gate. Going further back a Friends, Cheers and X-Files were all low rated at first and all went on to be major smashes.

With network TV enough shows just aren't given time to grow and find an audience and the few that have its been little more than dumb luck. Networks need to have more faith in shows and give the a chance to build an audience via word of mouth, summer repeats and DVD/Home Media. Also imho they would all do better as well if they guarentee a TV Movie or Mini Series if its cancelled to wrap everything up like Prison Break did (Although that wasnt Fox's doing as they didnt air 'The Final Break' It was the decison of th e producers mainly as they hadn't produced enough episodes to fulfil their international networks agreements) Audiences would then have more faith committing to a series.

In 10 years time I really do see Cable being in the state that Network TV is in (Unless ofc streaming and On Demand has killed broadcast TV by then)
So HBO cancelling shows after 2 seasons seems to be a good trade off between giving a show a chance and for the network to move on...

CBS has picked up the drama "Reckless".

Jeez how can Chicago Fire and Revolution get renewed and Southland is axed?

Just goes to show what viewers want?

but Danny & Lindsay had already got together by the time Anna got pregnant for the second time (her first pregnancy was covered up in season 3) so I don't think they only put them together cos of that?

Anyway I'm sad that they have cancelled the show even though it hadn't been as good in recent seasons I still enjoyed watching it as I liked the cast
Hope they launch a spin off called Mac and Flack - my 2 favourite characters

I wish another network would pick up Southland. Starz, AMC, FX or somebody. The fact each season was so short as it only lasted around 10 or so episodes means they could at least get another couple of seasons worth out of the show. It was the only cop show i watched and there's nothing else like it on tv.
Southland is great. Best cop show since The Shield.

Agreed. I’m gutted it’s been axed, but at least we still have season 5 to look forward to on More4. But why did they stop releasing it on DVD after season 1/2?

That's a good sign that the DVD sold very poorly in the UK and the company decided to not even bother releasing further seasons.

You can get Seasons 3 and 4 from Amazon but it would be an import from the US.

NBC are being really hush hush on Hannibal. It isn't even on the schedule, but still doesn't mean if it's been cancelled

I reckon it will get the axe.

announcement will be in the next couple of weeks according to NBC but Aint it Cool are saying it was always seen as been a shorter cable type run so maybe 13 episodes and lined up to replace Believe when it gets canned

In CSI-land it often seems as Flack is the only detective in New York. He needs a rest.

It's a bit of a shame that it was cancelled but it has had a good run and I think the last season was a decent way to end for all of the characters.

As for Danny and Lindsay, they were one of my favourite TV couples. I thought they worked really well together.

They were all detectives in NY apart from Sheldon

I meant non-crime lab detectives. Flack was just about the only one they ever worked with.

It's a common thing in cop shows where the same limited number of people seem to be involved with every single crime. Blue Bloods is the worst for this where every crime involves everyone in the family.

Ah right, yeah I think it was just Flack because they were all detectives themselves, same with Miami.

In Vegas they aren't cops so they work with a few different ones.

I suspect it will be safe. Its commisioned not just by NBC but also AXN in Asia so they will be sharing the usual licence fee paid to the production companies for the show (although NBC will almost certainly be paying the bigger percentage)

And there are about 5 seperatly production companies involved as opposed to couple that you normally get. One of them which is Sonys main TV a production arm (Sony Pictures Television) who have a long history of reducing licence fees to keep show on the air as they know they can make it back via things like International and home media rights. And at the end of the day ratings actually don't matter its does the show generate more ad revenue than the licence fee the network pays.

They seem confident in their comedies, I don't even remember Dads being given a full season order. Given Seth MacFarlane's got another film out May next year, do we think he'll have neglected this.

Also how will Almost Human and Bones share a slot?

I assumed 'Almost Human' would take over the Monday slot when 'Bones' moves to the Friday slot?

Bones is now on a Friday
Is this FOX's way for the ratings to go lower and they cancel it?

Ah, thanks. Didn't spot the second 'Bones' slot. I'm assuming Fox are trying to end the Friday problem by moving 'Bones' there, I'm willing to bet it fails and becomes 'Fringe 2.0'...

The Television Without Pity web-site has galleries of the Fox and NBC upfronts - can't say there are any programs that I am looking forward to, Can't believe NBC are rebooting Ironside. Believe looks like junior Heroes/Touch.

Ouch...

Folks who were optimistic a few days ago that #HappyEndings might find a new home now admit it's unlikely. Too bad...
