It's a shame about The Defenders. It was easily the best new legal show of the year, and it offered a good mix of comedy and drama. It wasn't Boston Legal, but Belushi and O'Connell offered a terrific pairing. The cancellation was inevitable given the ratings, but it was actually a really good show.
I'm glad Blue Bloods is on the way back. Presumably CBS think they can retool it a bit, and I'd imagine that Tom Selleck gets on quite well with them, given that they already work together on the Jesse Stone TVMs. I don't think the show is particularly special - good, not great - but I am a big Tom Selleck fan. i agree, have been enjoying it on fx |

I know it’s now been axed but having not watched much of the show I’ve always wondered how they refer to this programme in promos and when the stars are promoting it on the talk shows? Do they just call it something like ‘Stuff My Dad Says’ or …My Dad Says’.?
Can someone enlighten me? not joking btw, i've heard em do it |

Can someone enlighten me? I think it's a teeny-tiny bit of a shame this isn't coming back - it wasn't a classic by any means, but The Shat was always good value, and it could have been tightened up into something a lot better (e.g. get rid of the skinny son). |

Reading all this thread it's not looking too good for CSI:NY. It would be a shame if they didn't renew that show it's my favourite of the CSI franchise and the only one I've watched from the first season until the present day. I went off Miami round about season 6 and I've only ever seen an episode here and there of the Vegas one.

In all the US promos I've seen, it's always called "Bleep My Dad Says", i.e. the announcer actually says the word "bleep". I don't know what 5USA does...

I'm delighted that Hawaii Five O and Blue Bloods have been renewed (well, not officially, but the New York Times isn't usually wrong about these things).
Love both shows. As for the cancelled shows, kind of gutted that The Defenders and The Chicago Code have been axed. Re: the latter, Sky must be tearing their hair out at how volatile the U.S. tv industry is. They hyped The Chicago Code for a month, trumpeted its' arrival, gave it a prime Thursday night at 9pm on Sky One timeslot, and the next day after the 1st episode had aired in the U.K., it's announced that it's been cancelled in the U.S.! I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that once you know a show has been cancelled, it becomes hard to emotionally invest in the series. The Event being axed is long overdue. Its return in March in the U.K. saw poor viewing figures and then it was shunted to a post-midnight slot on a weeknight on Channel 4 that doomed it. |

I'm also glad that I found out about Chicago Code before watching so no time was wasted on it - I was thinking "too many cop shows" before it started anyway. I am disappointed about The Event tho as it become a bit of a guilty pleasure and I'm a sucker for that type of show. Not really surprise tho, seeing the loooong break it had. Don't think C4 ratings would have any effect as it was pretty much a gunner from the off in the US

To be fair, I don't think it was the viewing figures on a UK station which decided the fate of The Event.

Hawaii 5 0 must be pretty secure to have announced that the character played by Hiro from Lost will become a regular in series 2.

snip Correct. It's flopped all over the world, but the only ratings that mattered were the US ones for NBC as it was NBC that were funding its production. It could have rated amazingly all over the world, but if its a flop in the US then the international ratings don't mean squat. Shamefully though I cannot remember the names of a show as it was a few years ago now. But I do agree that 99/100 the international market makes no difference. |
