Fringe being the exception of recent years. That said, I don't think a cult show with abysmal ratings like Fringe will ever be able to pull off not being cancelled for three seasons again (it was doing fine for the first couple and then Fox moved it to Friday)...

It was weird about Fringe. A huge hit in season 1. Slight decline in season 2. By season 3, it has lost like three quarters of it's audience. Which is a shame as i thought season 1 was the weakest and the seasons where the audience pulled out, were the best. Chuck is another example of a show with poor ratings but NBC saw it out to make 100 episodes out of it. Chuck and Fringe are very rare examples.

Yeah... I do think that maybe the monkeys at Fox were just a little frightened of upsetting Uncle Rupert

It was produced by Warner Bros., Fox stood to gain nothing by keeping it on air.

Surprisingly, not that different - it's more or less the set up of the Eliza Dushku show Tru Calling only with brain eating instead of talking corpses.

But Tru calling was about saving lifes, IZombie is about solving crimes and has no "do over" effect. So it really is different from tru calling. The only thing it has in common is a woman as a lead character and a morgue as the main set up. Other than that, the comparisons end there.

During the period Chuck was airing NBC were in the doldrums as the worst performing of the Big 4 networks and pretty much all of their new shows were failing abysmally*. Chuck, as weak as its numbers were, was pretty much NBC's most solid performer at the time hence its repeated "against the odds" renewals.

* The following is an (incomplete) list of NBC dramas debuting between 2007 and 2012 (the period Chuck was on air) which failed to get a second season renewal:-

Bionic Woman
The Black Donnellys
The Event
Journeyman
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
Raines
the Knight Rider reboot
Mercy Trauma
the Prime Suspect remake
Law & Order: Los Angeles
Undercovers
The Playboy Club
The Cape
Saving Hope

Really? Oh I`m surprised at that. It`s been getting great reviews in the US & it`s in it`s 5th season.

Wasn't too bad, the girl reminded me of Jenna Elfman. It's on daily so I'll give it a go.

Thankfully i follow US pace
But it's ridiculous how poorly treated it is over here. It's a million times better than than the original UK version.

Perhaps worth mentioning it was developed at Cinemax, so has the potential to be a lot more violent and sweary than TWD, if you like that kind of horror.

More4 are absolutely clueless, just look at some of the shite they have on in prime-time, yet dump their imports in the middle of the night.

What shows remain unsold from this current 2014-15 season?

When a tv channel picks up rights to a show does it vary on what they agree to? Like picking up season 1 only or having options for potential future seasons? As I remember when lost was brought by sky from season 3 onwards. So did channel 4 only buy season 1 and 2. Same with scandal last year. Or do they get first refusal on future seasons?

Depends. They can ask for first refusal on future seasons, but they'll probably be given it anyway (as it's slightly easier to sell a show to the previous broadcaster, than to entice new buyers) and they can buy more than 1 season at a time if they want.

For example, Channel 4 often buys more the first two seasons of a show, and will then decide after the first season, whether to buy the third in advance or not. They definitely did it with Homeland, and I think they did it with New Girl too, but don't quote me on that.

Isn't the beauty and the beast renewal for the summer? They are making it a summer show now so that the ratings don't matter aren't they? Perhaps they may do the same for one more season of Hart of Dixie, leaving space to keep two of their spring shows if they do well.
