Good news about Man Seeking Woman. Very funny series, one of the highlights of my week.

Japanese penis monster for the win.

I accidently read this as “Strange, Empire cancelled after one season” and thought – WHAT?!? How can Fox cancel Empire after the ratings/demos its getting?!?

Then I realised there’s actually another programme called Strange Empire that I’ve never heard of.

I really hope they show the remaining episodes of Stalker soon, there wasn't that many left so it just seems completely stupid to shunt them off air. Will never understand the scheduling of TV shows in America, it seems so erratic and unpredictable.

As did I.

Incidentally anyone know what is the highest rated show to be cancelled after one series?

Good question.

I don’t know the answer, but I do know that last season the highest rated first season programme to be cancelled was CBS’s ‘The Crazy Ones’. Cancelled after one season despite averaged an impressive 2.7 rating in the 18-49 demo.

Its problem was that it lost much of its lead-in from ‘The Millers’ (which then got cancelled itself) which had a massive lead-in from ‘The Big Bang Theory’. ‘The Crazy Ones’ also had high production costs (mostly in star salaries) so CBS just pulled the plug. As things turned out even if it had of got renews it would have probably been cancelled due to Robin William’s death.

CBS can be bizzare in their renewals and cancellations. They are not as black or white as other networks.

I haven't seen it but it had cancelled written from the start just based on its premise.

The timing does seem unfortunate. You have to feel sorry for the producers though, because it's probably been in development for years...

I was up to episode three of this, and was going to catch up in one go at a later point. Shame, it had some potential.

The main problem is that 'The Americans' is already doing this type of story. It may be set in the 80s but it is virtually the same thing.

I didn't like the Americans because of its content being too violent for me. However it is done very well. The couple are proper well trained spies at a time the Cold war was on. The wife in this was a half hearted 'spy' and the husband just helped her. The premise is silly.

AMC are very ambitious with their renewals. They renewed Better Call Saul for a second season and that was only with just a pilot filmed.

AMC nearly lost Better Call Saul to Netflix, when the producers were somewhat offended by the pilot deal they were offered. Reportedly Netflix got wind of this, quietly slipped a straight to series offer to Sony, and AMC then panicked that they might lose the show and upped it's deal to a series commitment as a result.

I think AMC might have given BCS an early renewal, partly because it was a fairly safe bet, and partly to stave off any further takeover attempts.

Having lost or being about to lose Mad Men, Breaking Bad and Hell on Wheels got rid of a lot of their big hitters, and their new stuff hasn't really struck the same chords, so I'm wondering if AMC are little concerned about their slate at the moment, which would explain the two season TWD spin-off order.

AMC could just have The Walking Dead and still be hugely successful as it's showing no signs of slowing. They've started owning their original shows like TWD, Hell on Wheels etc in order to avoid paying expensive licensing from studios like Lionsgate and Sony. The companion show allows them to expand the franchise just as CBS does with CSI and NCIS.

AMC are some interesting stuff coming like Humans which is a co-production with Channel 4, The Night Manager which is a co-production with the BBC and is a miniseries plus Badlands which is a kung-fu series. I do think they should use The Walking Dead as a lead in for a new original series rather than waste it on Talking Dead. They have Preacher in development as well as Thief of Thieves, the latter which is from the creator of The Walking Dead.
