I feared the worst for Charlie last night so was glad he's making progress
It was quite shocking to see him still talking to that nurse long after
she had left the room. It didn't look good at that stage
Philosophical as Derrick was it was so sad to see he'd lost his wife

LIke the way they showed the woman with the cut finger and chap with a crack
in his leg & sleepy pal to lighten up this episode. Such a well made series
I knew Charlie's Daughter in Law was going to 'go' at some point and I knew I'd 'go' with her, I did...
The bit when various staff were looking over Dr Tian's (sp) shoulder and making shocked noises about the scans really didn't look good.
I suspect Dr Malcolm would have been talking up the resilience of the human body, 'he's walking and talking, really he is'
It was rather like the Declan? who came off his bike in the first episode when he was questioned, I would have found that very distressing, if I was his family

Oh Derrick, you can be as philosophical and matter of fact as you like about these things, I suspect it makes little difference to the pain felt when 'it' happens.
Shame we didn't get to see more of his wife, maybe that's the way he wanted it, given what happened later.

As you say the light and dark, human interest asides are very good.

Another excellent episode.

Really felt for Zena - her whole world changed in they space of a week. Charlie Brown was fantastic - really hope things work out for him with his cafe and that he and his lovely family have many more years together.

Loved Derrick too - very moving when he was just holding his wife's hand and looking at her.

I really liked Sally and her ex - she was very funny. Wonder if Ben ever regrets finishing with her.

Seconded on all counts, it's all very well done as as series, gathering in all sorts of different shades, not just red calls I thought it would all be about.

On to the lighter shade of things, Sally and Ben.
I think Sally's a bit 'lively' when she gets going, and quite funny 'sort of butterflies that make you want to do a poo' oh deary me, what do you say to that while you're giving someone a hug

Hospitals are very odd places, where time seems to drift rather than progress as normal.
Stayed a few days in hospital with the girls when they were younger.

I love this programme - it's my local hospital so it makes it all the more interesting. Although I've never (thankfully) had to use A&E, I have been an outpatient in other departments and I've got nothing but praise for this hospital and its staff.

I watched this week's episode last night. I loved Zena and her family; she seemed so in control and so loving towards her father-in-law. I loved the way she called him 'mate' all the time. It was so moving when Charlie was talking away to the nurse after she'd left the cubicle because he was unable to see out of his left eye that she'd gone.

I cry buckets at this every week and I laugh too. That old man whose wife had had a stroke. I felt so much for him, it was so moving, especially when he was allowed in to hold her hand.

Then there were the two young blokes talking about football - one saying that he hated it but he supported Liverpool anyway and then went on to name the only player he knew, only for his mate to tell him that he'd not played for Liverpool for years! Then there was their antics in the wheelchair. That did make me laugh.

This is such a well-made programme that manages to show the NHS at its best plus the human side to all the stories that come through A & E every day.

Peggy reminded me so much of my late Aunt Jessie- I nearly went when they showed her after she'd woken up smiling and alert. She was the same age when she died as well. I thought I'd struggle with the stroke element as my beloved Grandma died after a massive stroke (her first and last one) but it was handled so very well. I think Peggy's husband's philosophy helped bless him.

Just got into this program, amazing. Really puts into perspective how someone can go so suddenly. Makes me want to go give everyone a hug after watching each episode.

Anyone know how many episodes they are making? Hope it comes back for a second series.

Just had a quick look on the C4 website - looks like 7 episodes altogether (unless they are uploading them in batches).

Was I the only one who thought Sally was with her ex in a way she shouldn't have been when she had her accident? Just seemed a bit odd that she went with her ex whilst the hubby was away.

Well they've been friends since college, looking at them that's a few years ago, might not be the type of relationship lots of us have with our ex's, but it's how their relationship is.
I didn't see anything I'd consider 'inappropriate' really.
I find it odder that out of this program, that's the thing you've chosen to comment on.

I found that a bit odd too. They probably are still good friends, but I found it a odd she's hugging him knowing it's on camera and her husband will see it.

I'm not so sure that it's the doctors who are 'wotless'.

That young lady has a major attitude problem. If I was treating her, i wouldn't tolerate that manner for a second.

Why do the people on here seem as though they are acting. Just something doesn't quite ring true. Anybody else get that feeling

Can't say I do. Some people really are major drama queens.

Some people only seem to see the negative and are interested in commenting on that, the positive seems to elude them or not be worthy of comment, very sad state of affairs.

Back to fire setters...
