See the post above, same was true for me.
I must have a couple of quirky boxes.

Sometimes I would get the rescan message on first boot, sometimes not. While I have briefly wondered why this might be I have never thought to link it to the state of population of the EPG. Or is this like my old gran's electric clock which she was convinced kept better time if kept covered with a tea cosy?

Maybe the channel was added after the 1st boot?

If Ive noticed a new channel has been added while the box is on, a reboot brings up the scan, I dont know where the EPG link came from.

No. I have already learnt of overnight channel changes when I turn the box on and did not get the rescan message. It is moot now as I am on the latest available firmware.

I'm not claiming the state of the epg has anything to do with it, merely the process of refreshing the guide has triggered, at least on my boxes, the forced channel update. There could be some other factors which have a bearing on this.

has anyone else noticed a problem with the auto updates with the new firmware. I have a programe that recordes everynight at 3am and i always miss the scan, and also i never have any thumbnails for the recorded programes, I would have thought that the box would try at 3am and if the box was recording try and search after the recording has finnished.

i think the boxes can be a bit flaky sometimes, Ive seen a channel added then I booted up, no scan screen so I did another boot and it did a scan then.

I didnt nothing between boots besides press the power button.

Maybe if the channel is added before 3am, the box finds it when it does the house keeping and it scans on the 1st boot.

If its added after 3am, then if only finds it after youve booted up and needs another boot to do the scan.

Thats nothing to do with the new firmware, its always done that, it can never do the housekeeping if youre recording.

Maybe I need to record that same program so I never update to the latest firmware.

GC, I seem to remember this being discussed a long time ago (as you know I haven't been very active on here for some time). Maybe my memory is failing me, but wasn't the explanation offered that channels were added to the EPG at around 11am? As such, if you switched the box on before this you wouldn't get the prompt, until a reboot, or the next day. Your trick of refreshing the EPG may cause it to recognise channel changes within the EPG so triggering the prompt?

As I say, old age, and forum inactivity, may mean I'm talking nonsense, it's just that it really rings a bell somewhere in the dark recesses

Feel free to refute/ignore

Rgds.

Les.

I was gonna suggest that. In fact I might try it myself to see if my editted channels that are available with the firmware package from mogie and raydon don't get over-written when the box is booted in the morning.

If you are using the volatile version they will all be. 1.00.15 also does not like freesat/Non freesat changes. I have modified my channel-editor script so that the backup file is always regenerated (It will be OK to use if from the first boot of the day] so I can make a new update file [Otherwise you will never see a new channel because the non-volatile channel editor will overwrite it].

Hi Les,
You had me doubting my sanity for a moment but thinking about it further:-

yes indeed as you say a boot prior to 11 o'clck would not offer a prompt to rescan obviously, and the trick of refreshing the epg triggered a scan at the next reboot. I used to employ this method when in the early days after the channel addition had been mentioned on DS I origionally used to just perform a reboot without the 'trick' and I would boot the box about 4 or 5 time without getting the prompt still.
And just to allay my questionable sanity, I just remembered that I have always had to trick the HD box even as recent as the last couple of channel updates as this would always be booted after the channel addition... Phew!

Is it just me or does the foxsat list 1.00.13 as the firmware version when running 1.00.15 in the firmware update screen?

When turned on and i browse through the menu system to the diagnostic screen the Software Version is listed as HPRSFCI 1.00.15 but input a USB stick and update the firmware or boot loader by pressing and holding in the power button until you get the firmware update screen and the Software Version shows as 1.00.13???

It's not just you mine was the same when I upgraded . I just presumed someone forgot to change the embedded info or that the box reports the currently installed version during the update.

They must of forgotten to update embedded info because i get this issue on all my boxes running 1.00.15 even when reflashing 1.00.15 with 1.00.15 lol.

Forgive me if I'm being a bit thick but I eceived an email from Humax today saying that there would be an update to the software for my Foxsat HDR on 1st June. In the circumstances I thought that I ought just to check what my current software version is, particularly as Humax are saying the the latest version was dated 8th December 2010.

The software installed on my box at the moment is: System ID 3768, Application Version HPRSFC1 1.00.13, Loader U7.52, Date 13/1/10. My system is set to automatic update so if the new software is dated 8/12/10 should I not have received the latest update by now; that is unless the latest update cannot yet be downloaded over-the-air?

Many thanks, GSD.

Many thanks for the very prompt reply to GSD whose post details I am identical to in every respect
After reading this thread I am very wary of attempting to manually download and install the update , I will be patient now hope that it will do everything automatically . Does it do it overnight 31st May/1st June , or overnight 1st/2nd June ?.
Many thanks.

Hi there still on version .13 personally as doesn't look like a great deal more in the way of features. What happened with the recording of live buffer?

I have just run the update of the Loader software using a memory stick supplied by Freesat specifically for the purpose (a while back when they were doing a beta to trial i-player). I deleted that beta, copied the new loader onto it, renamed it and installed it successfully.
However,
When I repeated the process for the firmware, it got to Downloading from USB, progress 77% and seems to have ground to a halt. It states on the website not to remove the memory stick or power down during the update process. Anyone know how I can get the box to restart that firmware update to see if i can get it to progress beyond 77% this time?

Nothing happened overnight and when I clicked on 'Automatic Update' in the 'Software Update' menu it couldn't find anything.

Does this mean that the OTA software has failed or simply been postponed until tonight?

Many thanks, GSD.
