Is this bad for cats? Is cream better? I know cow's milk is bad for them as cats can be lactose intolerant.

If its the Whiskers/Felix ones then they will be fine.

Our 2 cats loved them when they were kittens, but got bored quite quick, which was weird as we only gave it to them as a treat.

I asked because one vet said it was bad for her and said she should drink only water. She prefers the Pets at Home own branded one. She won't drink any other brand. She's a little fussy. Maybe your cats get bored, like mine.

I've had a total of 5 cats, and none of them would ever drink the special milk they sell for cats.

The thing about not giving cows' milk to cats is a myth. SOME cats are lactose-intolerant, but by no means all. I was told by my vet that if a cat is happy to drink cows' milk and it doesn't make them sick, then it is fine to give it to them.

My newest, littlest one runs to the kitchen when she hears the kettle being switched on, waiting for me to give her a little milk in her bowl. I just wish she wouldn't lift her head and shake her whiskers every few minutes, sending lots of tiny milk drops all over the floor!

Mine loves cow's milk and is fine with it, but I only give her a small amount very occasionally as a treat as she has a tendency to put on weight.

My old boy loved it too, it didn't make him sick but did make his poo a bit runny so I avoided giving him it. The only cat milk he would drink was Asda's own.

Neither of mine like real milk but both adore Whiskas cat milk and lap it up like its going out of fashion, makes you wonder whats in it ?

Lactofree milk is practically identical to cat milk (minus the added taurine), and works out much cheaper too.

My two love it.

I didn't think of that, good idea, thanks.

I buy my cat the Whiskas cat milk occasionally as a treat, but mostly she has water.

I purchased some `light` cat milk from somewhere which my cat loved but can`t remember where I got it from and would like some more

OK folks, humour me. The only mammel that drinks milk after weaning is the human animal. Why do cats 'need' any kind of milk?

Pets at home do a light cat milk.

Because it tastes nicer than water?

cat milk has taurine in it - cat's can't produce their own taurine and they normally get it from their diet, so giving them specific cat milk is not going to be bad for them.

I was always met with disapproving looks when I told vets and catteries that Tabitha loved her Whiskas cat milk. It was her treat, she loved it. Bernard won't go near it, just drinks water.

I don't see any harm in giving a cat a treat as long as it doesn't become part of the staple diet and the cat doesn't have a weight problem.

Tabitha stopped eating when she was dying - but she didn't stop drinking so I was very grateful for that cat milk, it would have provided some nourishment, protein, fat and calories.

But the rest of their diet will provide enough taurine, unless the cat is being feed on something completely unsuitable. It is simply that it strikes me as a unnecessary thing to give a cat. If it's as a very occasional treat then ordinary cream or milk (if it doesn't upset the cat's tummy) are fine.
