Hasn't Moffatt already said that he would love to have Jack back at some point ?

Wouldn't mind a one-off epsidoe combined with Torchwood (not to save the world though) but not back as a travelling companion.

*blinks* They used to work together all the time.

I think Russell is wary of looking like he's sticking his oar into someone else's show now.

The biggest problem with bringing Jack back in is that they've such such good work recently into turning Torchwood into something more challenging and more centred, and much less compatible with Who stories. Not least of which is the change in production, which is going to make it hard to sync up.

Barrowman's always said that he plays two different versions of Jack and enjoys doing so - the cheeky chappie in DW and the darker, moodier (and raunchier) version in Torchwood. It's credit to the bloke that we can embrace and believe both of them so easily.

I don't doubt for second that JB or Moffat could make it work if they wanted to - maybe even write for a tougher, more battle-scarred version of Jack in DW to allow for the evolution of his Torchwood character. In fact, a future version of Jack complete with actual scars could be a good way to get around any problems with Torchwood storylines.

I saw JB in Cage Aux Folles where he was dressed as a woman for most of the show and I have to say - he could always take over as River Song if Alex left

I'd probably place any new encounter the Doctor has with Jack between CoE and MD from Jacks PoV, depending of course what happens after MD.

Unless of course SM finally wants to tell the story of Jacks missing two years of memories.

Given Jacks current physical state, he is unlikely to look battle scarred.

In all honesty, this is something i have always wanted to see. it would allow the chance of a really strong Jack-centric episode. As said up thread, since Utopia Jack's character has not really been given a decent sized role in proceedings when he has appeared, even though he has still had some good moments along the way.

My vision was not having Jack as a regular companion, that would get boring and I would no doubt we wouldn't hold the character in such regard.

As I said in my OP, I saw him returning in a sort of Brigadier capacity, being one of the Doctor's most trusted allies and being reliable to help or even calling upon the Doctor in times of need. It worked with the Brig, why not for the Capn?!?

Spoiler
Well, more speculation really but an educated one. I think all opportunities of him meeting Amy and Rory are probably gone, no dobt they will be leaving at the end of the series

I think it's more that he is over qualified to be a companion full time, especially as we have seen his character grow through Torchwood.

This is quite a pertinent point.

The role of the companion is to ask the questions that the viewers are asking in their heads.

Jack or even River already know as much if not more (in River's case re the Tardis!) therefore it would not work. They would be as near as equal to the Doctor as anyone could be.

Absolutely not - can't stand John Barrowman. I actually don't mind Jack too much in Torchwood but in Doctor Who he is VERY annoying.

Well there is always that memory gap to deal with, which RTD has always said was down to the Moff to sort out.
