Why has Britain's Got Talent been so boring this year?

2011 is good

It's really been quite dire this year.

Either there is no talent, or the producers seem to think that we want to see "hilariously" stupid acts and so give them the air time.

Either is a distinct possibility to be fair.

I think exactly the same. And people are going to laugh at me but in my oppinion the answer is: because Simon Cowell is not there.

I can not believe how many rubbish, simple, miningless acts pass to the next round. The quality this year is really low.

The Simon Cowell thing is an interesting one. A majority of us seem to think that Cowell not being there has improved the show with the new judging panel being better.

But I don't think people want to perform in front of the Hoff or Michael McIntyre. People often used to go on these shows to get Simon Cowell's approval. After all, the man has a massive fanbase, and a 'Yes' from someone with loads of power within the entertainment industry is a big thing.

It could be possible that people simply bothered not to apply since Cowell wasn't there.

Lack of talent.

Perhaps it's because the quota of "really good" people have all been on in previous series?

I don't think the lack of Simon is a factor in the lack of talent. Did the people who applied to be on know that Simon wouldn't be there?

Simon's great talent is spotting and identifying talent. The question over the quality all comes down to what the contestants / candidates / entrants knew about the voting panel in advance.

I didn't mean, no Simon - no talent. What I meant was, no Simon - BORING.
As an example, the first 15 mins of today's program, the acts that passed to the next round are rubbish. It is embarrasing, Arnold S look alike.... a guy ballancing backets in his head.... a 17 yrs old no good singer..... ahhhggg!!

I don't think it is for the lack of Simon. Three monkey's could do the judging. The producers
could fit a lot more acts in, but instead we get shots of the judges arriving, the judges walking down
and the judges doing their hair. Then we get aerial shots of the cities and other crap.
With hundreds in the waiting room, there must be talent in there.

Well I might agree with you, but of course we have no idea (from the TV programme) about who the contestants see (ie the Producers?) before they see The Judges; and we don't know the acts that are guaranteed to receive a "pass" through to the later stages.

As if it needs saying, not everything we see on TV is as it really happened.

Tonight was an example. They spent ages concentrating on a woman who was nervous before appearing on stage, then they fast fowarded through her actual performance, and cut to the judges saying Yes.

WTF? You don't even show us the good acts now?!

I'm preferring it this year because Cowell isn't there. Disappointed to hear he'll be reappearing for the finals. He's so up himself.

Simple. There just haven't been enough good acts. Some are competent, but very few are jaw-droppingly original or good.

* There's no Simon Cowell on the panel
* Not enough good acts
* The show is fixed

The problem is it Peaked with Diversity & Subu - your not going to get another year like that, Spellbound were good but they should have cancelled the show after last year. Once you peak its all over. Now they are left with total crap that would never had made it past producer auditions in previous years. Its had its time, carrying on will just damage any crediblity it once had and its nothing to do with the judges who arnt that bad, its the blatent lack of talent that is embarassing.

Pretty much sums it up.And usually theres an act thats really good, memorable and stands out .

And just seems a bit all the same from what we've said years before..dance..someone who doesnt look like a good singer who can sing etc etc etc

It really is terrible this year, not enjoyed one episode of it yet to be honest.

I think that the theory that it's because Simon isn't there will be confirmed after XF this year. I do agree its Simons approval people want. So let's wait and see if Simons presence makes the difference.

Thought this thread was due re-visiting.

I don't know why it's so bad this year; but I don't think it's Simon's absence. I wonder if it's more because (after so many years) people don't want to bother any more?

Either way - it's not good this year.

No real talent and the fact that they seem to think we enjoy watching crap acts....I'm slowly losing the will to watch it:yawn:

I agree. Add Flawless who would have strolled it any other year and we had a series that can't be bettered.
I can honestly say that I would struggle to remember a single act this year so far as no one has stood out the way those three acts did. Not a single act has made me go 'wow' so far.

And surprisingly its NOT David Hasselhoff (who did it a lot on AGT), but the OTHER two blockheads putting through rubbish acts (people balancing buckets on heads, singing badly but emotionally, or dogs looking cute but performing badly).

Totally agreed there has been so few decent talented acts this year, what has happened did they not audition or aren't there any quality acts left to audition?

I would struggle to find 10 for the semi-finals let alone 40?

I think the semi's will be a real let down.
