Based on the restricted update to iOS 4 that Apple released for the iPhone 3G because the hardware wasn't quick enough to run the full iOS 4 update, I'd say Apple aren't doing this to be difficult or to force upgrades, they're doing it in such as way as to keep the user-experience as good as it can be for that particular model.”
Thats true. An OS will always become more bloated.
The original iPhone 412 MHz ARM 11 with 128MB RAM
The 3G had 412 MHz ARM 11 with 128MB RAM
The 3GS runs a 600 MHz ARM Cortex A8 with 256MB RAM
The iPhone 4 has a 1 GHz ARM Cortex A8 with 512MB RAM
Given the trend is towards 1.2GHz dual core CPU's this year it will make the old iPhones look an embarrassment. Something you would rather keep hidden in your pocket rather than flashing it in front of people to try and make everyone think your cool.
