easiest way to root?

I'm looking to root my Desire. The thing is I have trouble following instructions sometimes so are there any "one click" programmes out there that go all the work for you?

Also once it has been rooted can I safely remove in-built crap like Peep?

I found this guide. I'm not sure if it will work for you though. It seems like it'll teach you everything you need to know. It isn't a one-click program, but it does seem to provide easy to follow instructions.

Technically with rooting, it's possible to remove anything from the phone. Even Android if you wanted.

If it appeals to you, you *can* get your desire running gingerbread (if it isn't already) and maybe a little closer to stock Google Android ROM by flashing your phone. Note: unless you back up ALL your data you will lose it by flashing.

There are quite a few ROMS out there. I suggest looking up Cyanogen Mod (http://www.cyanogenmod.com/devices/htc-desire-gsm)

P.S. If you still can't do it, I'll ask my friend who actually has the desire to see how he did it if you'd like.

EDIT: Sorry! I forgot to link to the guide! Guess I got too distracted by reading it/looking for ROMS. http://rootmydroid.co.uk/guides/gene...ith-unrevoked/

Really, should you even be trying this to begin with?

Yes. I've paid for it so why not.

What I think Frost is saying is that if you don't know what you're doing, you could make a huge mess of your phone, or brick it completely.

If you want a simple way to get rid of the HTC stuff on your phone and get a more vanilla Android experience but with less risk, then get ROM Manager from Android Market and install a new ROM using that, but make sure you've backed up all your important info, texts, photos, music etc first, because the whole lot will get wiped.

This is why I'm after a "one-click" programme, something that does the work for me. I've tried a few ROM managers and they all seem to require a rooted phone.

Yes, and haven't you just rooted your phone?

Once you've rooted, get this: https://market.android.com/details?i...tta.rommanager

It's a two step process

1. Get Root (which you've done)
2. Update ROM

That's as simple as you'll get it.
