Need to unroot dead Desire without USB Cable!

Tried XDA but with no avail so far

Anyway, I have a hell of a sticky situation. My HTC Desire charger port has broken so I cant charge it, meaning it's dead and need to send it away asap because it has a week or so of warranty left. The problem is- it's rooted. I don't have a clue what it's rooted with as it's a second hand phone and I'm not zavvy on rooting at all so I'm completely stuck! Can anyone help us out?

Get someone to charge your battery in their phone?

I dont know this for sure, but if the USB port is broken I doubt the company will even try to fix it. Its not worth the effort, you will probably just get a new device. Hence, I doubt they will even turn it on to notice it has been rooted.

Plus I have read a few posts on XDA devs stating that the warranties are not been affected by the phone been rooted or having S-OFF.

Like I said, i am only speculating, if you cant get your phone charged by someone else then its possible worth just sending back anyway.

Make sure you don't just need a new USB cable. I thought my phone was broken, all i needed to do was buy a new cable, about 3 quid from Amazon.

It did feel like the phone socket was lose, no, the cable had been stood on I think!

Borrow one off a friend and try it before dumping a perfectly good phone.

Is it possible to extract the stock ROM as a zip from an RUU? (Links on XDA). If so you could copy that to the micro-SD card using an SD adapter, then flash using recovery mode.
You'd also have to borrow a charged battery from someone.

Answering my own question - yes. Run the RUU exe and the ROM file zip will appear in c:/windows/temp
