The BGT Final coincided nicely with people returning home from half term holidays on Saturday afternoon. And the very short-lived heatwave had finished by Saturday I think for most people - certainly where I was!

Ahh Robbie you have the potential to be a great and knowledgable contributor to this thread, alas you're obvious pro-BBC, anti-ITV agenda continues to shine through leaving you constantly on that list of "people not to listen to that much"

OK, so people can push a pro-ITV agenda and justify the ratings etc for ITV shows when someone seeks to compare BBC and ITV shows' respective performances - but if I put the counterveiling view, I'm being biased and "not worth listening to"?

I didn't first make the comparison between SCD and BGT, at least one other person got there first.

You obviously bothered to read my post though... Perhaps if i'm "not worth listening to", you best just add me to your ignore list, then you won't feel you have to read my posts.

I'm sure Robbie has statistics on the numbers on holiday abroad on Dec 18th versus June 4th. I'm sure he will post a link any minute now

Also i'm sure he will identify the roads where all these millions of people were stranded on last Dec 18th. I've searched the news archives, but curiously I cant find any stories about them...

I think the SCD and BGT ratings should be shouted about. Yes Strictly was on i the winter, but what about the competition, if you want entertainment and you on't like SYTYCD, BGT is your only choice. If the BBC had a decent spring offering I reckon a cope of million could be knocked of BGT

Popstar To Operastar returned with 4.1m according to Neil Wilkes on Twitter.

That's an OK rating for it, but after it got the BGT sandwich for a preview they probably hoped for slightly more.

Well against the SCD Final ITV aired a repeat of Bridget Jones 2 so I'm not sure that's a fair argument though.

I think rzt is the thread's resident "Statto", not me...

Such outrageous pro-BBC bias. That won't go down well...

Poor considering the hype. The average DSRPG prediction was 4.8m.

It should have done better. I suspect the results show will have been below 4m. I hope Scott & Bailey held up between the two shows though.

I'm glad we can put to bed this idea though that a 30 minute preview of a not very popular show is really a good use of broadcast space in between two of the highest rated programmes of the year.

More details from Attentional:

Quote:
“Popstar to Operastar started its second season on ITV1 at 8pm. The ITV Studios production, which sees a range of pop singers try their hand at the demanding operatic style, last year averaged 3.8m (15.5%) in a Friday-night 9pm slot. This year, in a new Sunday-night slot, the show began with 4.1m (16.6%) and a Performance Index of 56.3, and the results show, at 10pm, attracted 3.1m (14.6%) and a Performance Index of 79.9.”

And also:

Quote:
“Case Histories, a new six-part drama from Ruby Films, that began on BBC1 at 9pm. The three two-part stories are adapted from the Brodie novels by Kate Atkinson, and star Jason Isaacs (Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter films) as the titular private investigator. The opening audience of 5.4m (20.9%) gave a Performance Index in the Average range at 95.4. The second part follows on Monday evening.”

He cetainly puts you in your place when you step out of line!

Resonable for PSTOS - 4.1m excls HD (and possibly +1 - Attentional's ITV figures are the low fat version ); 3.1m results excl. HD

Case Histories 5.4m; 20.9%
Coast 1.9m; 7.4%

Solid start for Case Histories. I don't think S&B will have held up too well looking at that. Very poor rating from the Operastar results show. The Attentional figures normally exclude HD but Neil Wilkes also quoted 4.1m for the performances so I'm not sure what is correct.

Also, was Coast new? If so that's very poor - doesn't it normally get 3-4m?

Reasonable? It's well below average compared to how ITV1 normally performs in that slot. And it shed over 20% of its audience for the results show.

You have a funny definition of reasonable, George.

Not as bad as I feared for Case Histories, but could and should have done a whole lot better with better scheduling. Having it air against the 2nd ep of a new BGT-enhanced (on launch) ITV series and the return of the popular-ish Coast wasn't the smartest move.

Actually i find any "pro" agenda quite childish, it's just you've made the biggest noise recently. There is another anti-BBC poster in this thread but perhaps i already have him on ignore. It would just be nice to see some posters put aside their personal agendas and congratulate good ratings or concede poor ones.

Wasn't Luther going to go there originally? That could have been a lot worse for the BBC.

I think that's a great start for Case Histories, exceeding expectations which put it at around 5m for the premiere.

Yes it was a new one last night.
But I cannot say I have seen it advertised much.

Coast started and ended late by 10 mins which wouldnt help it. Its repeated so often anyway that its difficult to tell anymore whats new versus repeated.

New Best Ever Best of You've Been Framed Children and Animals Special (and so on) falls into the same category...

I dont disagree with you on that! Its a standard filler for BBC2 same as YBF is for ITV

6.5m incl +1 is still very good going considering last week it had an 11m lead in from BGT and last night it had a sub-5m lead in from Operastar. I think it did very well. Case Histories got off to a good start too, but I think Injustice will damage it tonight. Operastar looks a bit better with HD and +1 - 4.5m is OK. Not so good for the results but 10pm was a ridiculous slot. Excellent for Antiques Roadshow. Countryfile was solid as ever and The Royal did a bit better than I expected. Very good for Home Alone 2 considering it's a Christmas film that they aired in June!
