It's a pale shadow of the old Casualty - it simply shares the name, Charlie (I assume...), shorter/jazzed up opening titles, and the slot.

But it's now a 50 week a year soap, not a Saturday night drama "event". It's years since I watched it.

I think some of the BSI must have cut their teeth in the Big Break era, given how often it clashed with snooker on BBC2 (Virgo often commentating on a live match whilst refereeing on BBC1)...

I reckon you watch more BBC1 output than I do.

I don't think Our War was quite as watchable or engaging as I thought it might have been. I drifted off after half an hour. So 1.3m is pretty good really, for what was quite difficult viewing. I did feel the positive coverage and BBC news plugs would have given it even more than that though.

Decentish figure for Angry Boys. Could be a cult BBC3 hit - watched the first one and thought it quite amusing, if coarse, but couldn't be bothered watching a second instalment back to back. Why do they do this with new shows?

It was quite hard to watch (not a criticism of the show, more of a criticism of the futility of the mission)

ITV's big new drama not getting the ratings it deserves...? (pardon the laboured pun )

Not great against an instant repeat of a recent BBC3 documentary which did quite well first time round anyway.

It's a good job ITV1 did have "Injustice" in its schedule as the rest of the night was rubbish....

Animal Kingdom 2.4m / 12% (2.5m inc +1)
Countrywise 2.4m / 11.2% (2.5m inc +1)

They've destroyed Countrywise by extending it to an hour and playing it on a Tuesday.

On C4, Four Rooms improved a little - no doubt due to weaker competition (1.1m....1.3m/ 5.4% inc HD and +1), but that's still nowhere near good enough to warrant a second series.

On BBC1, Eastenders got 8.3m/ 41.3%, while Holby got
5.4m/ 25.4%.

Is Injustice bad? I haven't seen it, but if it got 4m with no competition, what do you think it will get this evening?

This time last year Millionaire was getting about 3.5m at 8pm and people were calling for that to be axed.

I do think Countrywise was an experiment - its not working so try something different after its run and CW can easily go back to a 30 minute format.

Perhaps they should have called it "Justice", then?

Eh?

Surely you don't think i'm the Controller of BBC1, do you?

I know you've never once denied that you work for ITV, but I will happily rebut that particular charge!

I think Poor Kids deserved a 9pm showing to be honest. Maybe it should of been swapped with Junior Doctors.

Injustice is okay, although the first episode was a bit too slow. Its 20% drop last night is similar to other ITV1 drama Monday to Tuesday drops from the last couple of years, so I'm not particularly surprised by that figure. Previous drops being: Collision (-16%), Above Suspicion 3 (-20%), Case Sensitive (-21%), Father & Son (-21%), The Reckoning (-35%).

At the moment, its figures are very similar to what another stripped drama, 'Father & Son', got in the same week last year for its first two episodes (5.3m, 4.2m). Assuming the breakdown was stable last night, I think tonight we'll see Injustice dip to slightly under 4m due to tough competition and then on Thursdays/Fridays, I expect it'll rise a little due to the Corrie lead-in. It's the sort of drama that I suspect will have a relatively high timeshift so I think l can see it ending up with a respectable ~5.5m official average - not great but not terrible either.

I tend to think that non-big hitter/non-stripped programmes airing in that Tuesday 8-10pm zone rate about 25% worse than how they rate in any other slot, especially a Corrie-enhanced slot. For example.:

- Countrywise has seen its figures fall to an average of ~2.7m, previously it was getting ~3.7m on Mondays, so a drop of 27%.
- The Bill averaged 3.7m on Thursday 9pm for its 6 episodes before the switch to Tuesdays, the following six averaged 2.8m - a drop of 24%.
- Millionaire averaged about 3.3m on Tuesdays, whereas on Saturday episodes can get ~4.5m - a drop of ~27%.
- 71 Degrees North had 4.8m on Saturday, on Tuesdays it had 3.4m - a drop of 29%.
- There are other examples too but I can't remember off the top of my head.

So basically, I think if ITV want to get back to averaging 3.5m in that Tuesday 8pm slot, they need to air a programme which normally gets 4.5-5.0m in other, usually "Corrie-enhanced" slots. It would have to be a factual or gameshow programme though, they're not gonna put drama there. At the moment, I can't really think of any ITV factual strands apart from Long Lost Family which gets 4.5-5.0m that would be suitable for a pre-watershed 8pm Tuesday slot. So unless they transfer that to Tuesday 8pm (and accept its figures are gonna take a significant dent but lift the slot average), bring back Millionaire or do something regarding the soaps (which I don't think they should do personally), I can't really see them getting back up to 3.5m in that slot in the near future. The Prince Philip documentary, which got ~4m the other week, would've definitely got 5.0m in a post-Corrie slot IMHO. As for Countrywise, as you say, turn it back into a 30-min show and it'll be back up to 3.5-4.0m in a Corrie sandwich. It seems like they're not taking the same risk with Countrywise Kitchen which is launching soon in a 30-minute format.

Looking to this Autumn How do we all think the big 3 shows will do. Strictly Come Dancing, X Factor and I'm A Celebrity. I Think all three will be down but they will still be huge shows.
