The Duke at 90 on #bbc1 got good ratings last night - peaking at 5.5m - average 5.0m. Very good watch too.

Think we can confidently say that Injustice lost its slot again then last night.

I remember in the sixties when the ITA ordered Crossroads to be cut from five to four episodes per week.

In the seventies it cut again from four to three per week.

The only other evening 'soap' was two episodes of Corrie!!

The Duke is a little bit low, considering the 8pm Tuesday ITV show got 4m. Was expecting about 5.5m to 6m really but it was a car crash interview with Fiona Bruce

But not quite as obsequious as Titchmarsh's.

He obviously doesnt want to be interviewed by anyone, but when the interview strays into whether Fiona Bruce is a professional and why the 2 of them are even talking to each other, you know its gone astray.

I just think they could have got someone to interview him who might have formed some sort of bond and got something out of him. Otherwise why bother?

Titchmarsh was chosen because he did the previous doc on the royal horse show where he seems to relate ok to him.

The pre and post interview bits in the taxi were a bit weird too (wonder if they were done after the interview in order to make it feel less crash bang)

Not disagreeing really - thought neither programme was particularly good, just that Titchmarsh's shaded it in the cap-doffing department.

true - maybe its time he went back on NBC's Meet The Press? http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540...28993#38128993

One interesting thing last night was the old clips of tv shows he presented. Obviously he wasnt always so anti-media, so it must be the last 20-30 years of coverage that has made him clam up.

The 5m represented 21.2% share according to http://www.attentional.com/screenwatch/

I'd say it meant ITV's programme acted as a pretty effective spoiler to the big BBC interview then, given that by putting it out 3 weeks ago, before his birthday, that's exactly what it was.

I can't imagine the 4m who watched ITV's interview were that "Prince Philip obsessed" that they'd feel the need to sit through another hour with a man who clearly does not like being interviewed, and reveals very little if anything at all.

Smart tactics by ITV's schedulers, who are beating the BBC's idiots around the park at the moment.

All that said, it did get 25% more viewers than ITV's offering - let's not get away from that...

[EDIT: maths corrected...]

I do agree though that Bruce was a strange choice. The interview clearly got off to a terrible start, with a shocker of an opening question, so clearly it was going to be difficult to recover from thereonin.

It did produce a newsworthy comment or two from the Duke though - I don't recall the Titchmarsh interview making any headlines...

No, I can't do maths - should be 25% more.

What was the Tuesday ITV show? The BBC interview looked like it was a chore for both to get through from what I saw.

Aah, but if you're in insurance, 20% is correct!

(5-4)/4 = 25% (possible range 0-infinity)
(5-4)/5 = 20% (possible range 0-100%)

A meeting between the Duke and one of ITV's broadcasting legends.

I've not got round to watching it yet, but I imagine it was hard-hitting stuff, and no wonder he was a bit defensive with La Bruce after the no-doubt incisive journalistic assault presented to him by ITV.

It was Alan Titchmarsh, btw...

I'd say 25% is correct.

4m * 1.25 = 5m

1.25 is the same as 25%.

Robbie what was the opening question, out of interest? I didn't see the show.

Can't remember now, it was just a bit nervous, long and waffly. They exchanged opening pleasantries, but the Duke wasn't particularly pleasant or welcoming, and I think it wrong-footed her when she came to start the interview proper. It seemed to screw any chance of rapport.

George, as usual, is exaggerating when he says the whole thing was a "car crash". (An unfortunate choice of words too - good job Fiona didn't mention that... )

Interestingly, it also timeshifted quite well, 4.52m excluding HD and 418,000 on +1.

Didnt even think of that but really it was awkward. Especially when Bruce retorted "being a journalist is a profession, even if you obviously dont think so"

Andrew Marr's Megacities seems really low with just 2.46m (11%) on BBC One in the 8pm hour

“The Good Wife came to the end of the second season at 9pm on More4. The Scott Free/CBS legal drama, which stars Julianna Margulies, drew audiences of 13.1m in the US, and averaged audiences of 238,100 (1%) on More4 in 2010. The second season, which in the US has drawn a slightly lesser 12.99m, has been attracting 273,400 (1.2%) to More4 to date. The final edition’s 268,375 (1.1%) gave a Performance Index of 89.6. An additional 61,058 (0.3%) watched on More4 +1.”

http://www.attentional.com/screenwatch/

But what was the average audience for those who watched season one on C4?

It's so sad that a top show was relegated to More4. It's not as though C4 is full to capacity with 'quality' in primetime.

I'm still waiting for a C4 rerun.

Probably because of an extremely strong night for the Soaps, Emmerdale near 8 million : http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/soaps/s3...on-corrie.html

(don't have enough time to do roundup ATM)
