My sister was wondering what the ratings are for milkshake, kids tv, starts at 6am on C5. I can't find any figures. Is there anybody that could help provide an answer, pretty please somebody. Just an average will do. I know it's not a high number. I was thinking it might not get recorded to a precise point?
So far this week, 'Milkshake' (06:00-09:15) has averaged:

6/6/11- 167k (3.8%)
7/6/11- 129k (2.9%)
8/6/11- 151k (3.3%)

Do you know how the other channels do at breakfast time compared to bbc breakfast and Daybreak? Like bbc2, C4, C5?
Ratings for those three channels (and Sky News) between 06:00-09:15 so far this week:

6/6/11- BBC2: 71k (1.6%) , C4: 145k (3.3%), C5: 167k (3.8%), Sky News: 90k (2.0%)
7/6/11- BBC2: 61k (1.4%) , C4: 123k (2.8%), C5: 129k (2.9%), Sky News: 94k (2.1%)
8/6/11- BBC2: 78k (1.7%), C4: 135k (3.0%) , C5: 151k (3.3%), Sky News: 103k (2.2%)

BBC1
Doctors 2.5 hours a week
EastEnders 2 hours a week
Casualty 50 minutes a week
Holby City 1 hour a week

Total: 6 hours 20 minutes

And that's not including Waterloo Road and River City (in Scotland) which DS counts as soaps.

ITV1
Emmerdale 3 hours a week
Coronation Street 2.5 hours a week

Total: 5 hours 30 minutes a week

Even if Coronation Street adds an episode it'll only be six hours a week for ITV1, so let's not be critical eh?
Well, theoretically you could label any drama as a soap, in order to take a dig at a broadcaster you dislike.
According to the British Soap Awards the British soaps are Eastenders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Doctors and Hollyoaks.

So that ends that argument.

Looks like a ridiculous bit of scheduling to me, whereas other channels put their 'extra' shows on their lower ranking digital channels, 5 put it on the main channel.

Why not just extend 'The Wright Stuff' by an hour, unless by 'extra' they mean an hour full of repeats.
They no longer have a "lower ranking digital channel" to put it on since 5* does not begin broadcasting until 1pm.

Seems sensible IMO. The Wright Stuff is a popular and important piece of programming. This isn't the first time they have ran an extra version, IIIRC they did it before but a much shorter version around 2005/6 and they had another programme in between.

Worth noting, the CBeebies channel is beating Channel 5 (and those other channels) most weekdays between 06:00-09:15:

6/6/11- CBeebies: 147k... C5: 167k (3.8%)
7/6/11- CBeebies: 204k... C5: 129k (2.9%)
8/6/11- CBeebies: 175k... C5: 151k (3.3%)

like many before me I do question the need for BBC 2 in those hours, and most of daytime, it isnt offering anything differnt, and apparntly to poor ratings.

Popular because it brings in a high share of the audience relative to the C5 average. Important because it contributes to the channel's current affairs output.

Worth noting, the CBeebies channel is beating Channel 5 (and those other channels) most days between 06:00-09:15:

6/6/11- CBeebies: 147k... C5: 167k (3.8%)
7/6/11- CBeebies: 204k... C5: 129k (2.9%)
8/6/11- CBeebies: 175k... C5: 151k (3.3%)
Not on Monday. Looks like a new episode of Peppa Pig aired on that day which boosted Milkshake's average.

Thanks for those, fascinating set of data I think. Habits are so different at breakfast time.

So CBeebies outrates BBC2?

So that ends that argument.
The NTAs don't recognise any shows as soaps.

A bit odd really isn't it? In comparison BBC One's Breakfast averages about 2500% higher than the simulcast on BBC News.

It really does add weight to the argument that the BBC should be allowed to drop kids programming on their main channels after switchover.

I suppose CBeebies has managed to achieve that kind of pulling power because it concentrates on children 24/7 while the main channels don't. Less people are interested in the news 24/7 so the pull is different.

There isn't much audience in the mornings but I imagine Channel 5 would be fine with the audience Milkshake gets because it's fill a PSB duty and probably make a bit of money for them.

Wonder what CBeebies was showing on Tuesday to drag down Milkshake's audience? the gap between them is very small.

I think they will be delighted with the figures as well. Beating BBC Two and Channel 4 most mornings is something to be proud of. It seems to be a highly valued strand by parents and children alike.

Okay so CBeebies might be winning some days, but that contains no ads. So the closeness to the BBC equivalent is IMO very impressive.

I can see why ITV3 rates highly because of screening old dramas which may appeal to eldery waking up early, but ITV2?

6:00am - Coronation Street
6:25am - Emmerdale
6:50am - Planet's Funniest Animals
7:15am - Loose Women
8:10am - Judge Judy
8:35am - Judge Judy
9:00am - Judge Judy

Why did an average of 103k watch that exactly?
