Does anyone have any predictions about how EastEnders will do next week versus Britain's Got Talent? Last year in the week they clashed, it was:

31/05 - 4.9m (19.0%) vs 10.7m (43.1%)
01/06 - 6.2m (26.0%) vs 9.8m (39.5%)
03/06 - 5.0m (25.4%) vs 9.6m (48.2%)
04/06 - 4.3m (20.7%) vs 9.0m (45.0%)
Average = 5.1m (22.8%) vs 9.8m (44.0%)

With the officials looking like:

31/05 - 5.95m vs 11.82m
01/06 - 7.01m vs 11.16m
03/06 - 5.71m vs 10.41m
04/06 - 4.99m vs 10.13m
Average = 5.92m vs 10.88m
I think Tuesday will probably be the highest rating of the week for EastEnders, because it won't be against Springwatch that night, and it will be starting at the same time as Talent. When EastEnders has tricky opposition, I, rightly or wrongly, recall it tending to hold up a bit better on Tuesdays rather than Thursdays.

I think the Monday and Friday EastEnders episodes will get a bit lost, starting half an hour into a popular show. Perhaps the stronger stories will stop the overnights dropping below 5m.

Another solid Tuesday for BBC1 and Crimewatch did very well, considering recent episodes had been getting in the mid 3m's.

Much better for the 8pm slot on ITV1. What with the Prince Philip profile getting 4m, Betty Driver getting 4m, I'm starting to think maybe it would be a good idea to comission a series profiling veteran celebrities, a bit like The Unforgettable, because there seems to be an audience for that right now.

Awful start for Four Rooms which adds to Ch4's nightmare. Very low for Secret Millionaire too which should have done better with fairly weak competition. Another food flop too-it's not good right now with big personalities like Jamie, Gordon and Kirstie & Phil's shows decerasing in popularity.

Excellent once again for Ch5 to come 2nd in the 9pm slot. They've got that slot sorted now with a very strong mix of US Imports/factual and films. Interesting to see Castle coming to Ch5. Not sure how it will do in a 9pm slot-seems more like something which would air at 10pm to me.

I see. Well, I think they should do something now, really. I've run out of ideas as to what.
They don't need to do anything too dramatic just now, the current schedule is doing OK. Tuesdays are a complete mess but I'm not sure an 8pm Corrie is the answer, particularly as it would have to move again next year when the football arrives.

I think the best thing for them to do is to keep things as they are for now, and then next Summer bring one of Friday's Corrie episodes to Wednesday at 7:30pm. Midsomer Murders could shift to Tuesday along with the football where it would probably do just as well as on Wednesdays (I can't see it having much crossover with Holby) and then start from scratch on Wednesdays. With Corrie at 7:30pm they'd have a good base and hopefully could be a bit more creative than they are on Tuesdays currently. Maybe some entertainment or comedy could go there.

Thursdays are OK as they are, yes Corrie isn't in an ideal slot but for the benefit of the rest of the schedule it's a sacrifice worth making. In an ideal world Emmerdale would lose an episode but that won't happen, so aside from switching Corrie and Emmerdale around on Thursdays there's no point in changing anything. Fridays could have a bit of a mixture, Corrie could play at either 7:30pm or 8:30pm depending on the rest of the schedule. Maybe some of Friday's entertainment focus could shift to Wednesdays, with drama (new and repeats) and older more upmarket factual stuff on Fridays (some of the authored journeys could go there).

Just a note on something mentioned in Broadcast's ratings article today:

[Primeval] will be repeated on ITV1 later this year.
If I was a betting man, this will be the schedule for later this year:

18:30 - Primeval
19:30 - Harry Hill's TV Burp
20:00 - The X Factor
21:00 - Life Stories/Red or Black/Take Me Out

It's always seemed odd they had just an hour for the performances in finale week - I suspect if Cowell gets his way he'll have the full two-hours both nights, though probably with an extra finalist.
They put the extra hour on the results, though. I think it's just the practicalities of only having 2 contestants - it'd be hard to fill 2 hours.

Not sure if XF will have a 3 person final because there is only room for one round of voting. I'm guessing 2 acts performing 3 times and 90 minute show. Possibly a 2 hour finale on the Thursday if the series does well.

Can't see I Hate My Teenage Daughter starting until late October. They'll need 3 hours each week to do bootcamp & judges houses and the first couple of live shows.

Which of Britain's Got Talent/The X Factor do you expect to rate higher for its final (results show) this year? The former because it's only thirty minutes, or the latter because it rated so well last year?
Probably The X Factor, but obviously a lot depends on how the new look plays out. I'd expect XF to be down from last year but I'm not expecting anything too huge for BGT, even if it is only 30 minutes.

I've not got the exact numbers but I think you'd need BGT to increase quite a bit and XF to fall quite a bit for BGT to take the lead?

we could invite them, and if they come, we can book a venue.
You could present the award for highest rated digital reality series to The Only Way is Essex. They'll show up at anything.

I think we should have Robbie presenting the award for highest rated entertainment series. I'm sure we could get Sinitta to come and collect it.

Dancc can present highest rated new digital channel to Sky Atlantic.

Derek500 can present Channel 5 with an award for highest rated US acquisition.

GlennA can present the award for Highest rated series among C2DE female viewers from oop North.

GeorgeS can do the breakfast award.

Dan_2008 can present Corrie with highest rated soap.

Which probably leaves me presenting Bruce Forsyth with some kind of lifetime achievement award.

I'll present the increased 7pm Sunday slot rating award to Jay Hunt, for replacing Last of the Summer Wine with Countryfile.

excellent post.

Can we find an award for EE? highest rated BBC soap?
Highest Rated soap overall

Didn't realise EastEnders had collapsed so much against BGT last year - and interestingly not really picked it up in the officials (indeed BGT had the bigger timeshift), though of course I'm sure EE performed well at 10pm on BBC3 for the week.
As you say I think ratings will remain pretty steady this year, though the show is certainly lacking talent this year, which is a shame really as the refreshed judging line up has really worked. Having seen six of the seven audition shows I couldn't say anyone stands out as an obvious potential winner, unlike previous years.

It's always seemed odd they had just an hour for the performances in finale week - I suspect if Cowell gets his way he'll have the full two-hours both nights, though probably with an extra finalist.

I think it is more down to filming dates than overseas travel as Countdown is usually filmed Monday to Wednesday or Monday to Thursday, filming a week a day. Jeff has always been honest that he is first and foremost a football presenter, and an opportunity has come his way which is too good to turn down.
Last years week of EastEnders (Against BGT) was Terrible as it was 'Teen In The Woods' Week but i remember all times high's of the BBC 3 repeat last year with the Tuesday rating at 1.8m (off the top of my mind)

I think it will rate higher this time around and if the BBC want to they can trail it as there's quite a few things going on.

Emmerdale seems a tiny tiny bit low, but no matter. Hollyoaks on the other hand, it may be time C4 called it a day.

EastEnders a good rating and share, but lower than expected.
I don't think so.
Bigish episode i supose but then it didn't get any promo of anykind.
They should have promoted Jims exit on Thursday and shown some classic clips

if that is what the ratings suggest then fine, but I would hate for our little awards show to be called into question if it isnt true, can you imanage how Kym Marsh would react?

I can't stand Kym Marsh - vile, arrogant woman. I remember her complaining about results at the NTAs too, and not just even about the category her programme was nominated in, she was ranting about Waterloo Road winning the drama award too. Now I know that was a controversial result but it was not her place to comment and considering she is in a soap herself she needs to learn to keep her opinions to herself.

I cant work out why she feels the need to vent like she does, its like she takes the normally good natured rivarlly between the two shows to the extreme, or like she is a memeber of the DS Soap forum

ITV really needs to shut her up, she isnt doing Corrie any favours, apparntly she thinks being part of Hear Say, gives her specail permission to be a jerk.

To be fair she has a point - Corrie thrashed EE on the night but that wasn't really reflected in the reporting.

It's a bit of a Catch 22 situation really for the BBC. Do they play out a big story that week to compete, but risk not getting the ratings such a story might deserve - or do they just admit defeat and cave in, as they pretty much have with the rest of the schedule.

Just to note the week after BBC1 has The Duke at 90 on Thursday 9th June at 9pm, and on Tuesday Junior Doctors: Life in your Hands - not sure if that's a full repeat of the BBC3 series or just a one-off, but a swift promotion either way. Comedy In with the Flynns debuts Wednesday at 8.30pm. (And sorry if all that has already been mentioned!)

Emmerdale has rated around the 6.5m mark for the last 6 Tuesday's in a row (7, if you include last night), so if anything the fact it's still at this level as we go into June soon is good IMO.

ITV has a press pack for a new 3-part documentary series, Baby Hospital: http://www.itv.com/presscentre/press...l/default.html

So it must be starting soon, probably in the week after the BGT finals. Could air on any of Monday, Tuesday or Thursday night at 9pm. I reckon they'll put it on Mondays for 3 weeks before Law & Order UK returns for its next series.

Their big mistake came when they rescheduled the soaps and decided against risking at least Coronation Street against Holby City. BBC1 always had a leg up on Tuesday nights but the football made it difficult for ITV1 to fight against it. The football moved and ITV decided against fighting the night for some bizarre reason.

Obviously shows can hold up in the 8pm slot - the Prince Philip interview proved that yesterday - but they are few and far between. The over reliance on documentaries really hurts them, especially as most of them are second rate.

Sounds worthy but it'll probably be a flop. Mondays are an option, and there will be a lot of factual on ITV in June as I think the only new weeknight drama they have lined up after Injustice for the Summer is Law & Order: UK (assuming Single Handed goes on Sundays) along with some repeats (Midsomer and Downton I reckon) so they'll need 4 weeks of factual for Mondays so L&O ends the week before August Bank Holiday (which I guess will be Red or Black week) so they could go with Baby Hospital and a one off (Mugged), or a 4 part travelogue (are either of Joanna Lumley or Billy Connolly's shows ready yet?). They've also got 2 part authored journeys from Martin Clunes and Ronnie Corbett to air, as well as that choir thing so they've got enough to keep them going, as I've probably missed some Tuesday stuff as well. Surely this means that Show Me The Funny will go on Thursdays at some point as otherwise they'd have factual overload during the week.

Also, The Marriage Ref is apparently 7 x 45 minute episodes and is due in Q2, so it'll probably start on 18th June with Odd One In and Penn & Teller.

The Billy Connolly and Joanna Lumley travelogues are being filmed right now, so it's unlikely they'll be able to transmit them as early as next month due to editing/post-production etc, maybe they'll be ready for July/August though. Mugged is taking a 10:35pm Sunday slot according to the press centre. Apart from My Choir Rocks, I'm not really sure what else they have lined up for Tuesdays in June/July/August - maybe they have some Police Camera Action/Cops with Cameras shows in the can. Looks like there'll be a lot of factual and repeats on ITV1 on weeknights in the summer as usual. Also dunno what they'll have on Sundays in August once PSTOS and The Royal are over - they could have Born to Shine in the 8pm slot but what about 7pm? And what'll air in the 9pm slot once Single-Handed is over?

Right, in that case those two travelogues will probably air in late-Summer or maybe even in the Autumn at some point. So between now and Red or Black week, taking away the shows we know about they've got 4 weeks on Mondays, 11 weeks on Tuesdays and Thursdays and 7 weeks on Fridays to fill. Mondays will probably be Baby Hospital + a one-off whilst Thursdays will presumably be Clunes + Corbett + Show Me The Funny. Fridays look set for Downton repeats. So for Tuesdays My Choir Rocks will be 3 weeks, and they have 8 episodes of Homes From Hell so that fits in. Dunno about 8pm as they've got 5 or 6 episodes of Countrywise left but it could be anything after that - they seem to make it up as they go along in that slot anyway. For all the luck they usually have there they may as well run repeats of You've Been Framed and TV Burp.

Sundays will have Single Handed for six weeks after Scott and Bailey ends, which only leaves them with one week between then and Red or Black week (assuming Red or Black starts on the Saturday after X Factor) so they could just slot a repeat or documentary in. After that they'll have 2 weeks until X Factor/Downton start, so I think they'll show the Fred West drama there as the episodes are 90 minutes so it can't air during the week. They'll have 6 weeks inbetween The Royal ending and X Factor and the 7pm gameshow starting so they'll probably just throw filler there - they've got a couple of those Titchmarsh walk things left from last Summer and they'll probably have a couple of other docs and random episodes of Corrie to fill the slots. Born To Shine should see them through at 8pm until Red or Black week. Again it'll probably then be a documentary or maybe even films for 2 weeks until X Factor. So yeah, basically it'll be lots of factual and filler stuff until September, with the odd bit of drama thrown into the mix.
