Friday night tv here is good, but could be better. Paul O'Grady is such a polarising presenter loved/hated, he is off next week but on June 3rd it is a Lady Gaga special - let's see if she causes a viewing spike. Low for the soaps - do Friday episodes tend to timeshift better?

Does anyone think POG ought switch nights with PM Life Stories, POG seems a better fit for Sat night and as it goes out live could benefit well from a BGT lead in.
June 17th, actually. June 3rd is BGT and June 10th is Injustice.

Next week's EastEnders looks like an even bigger week then i first thought
One of it's biggest weeks in years and involves a kidnapping and
Spoiler
which runs across the week and David Essex joins on Friday.

Good to see the BBC are not letting BGT have an easy run like last year

Paul O grady Imo would be better on Saturday night's but i always enjoyed the tea-time shows
Advertising their week last year against BGT didn't really well, so I doubt it will work this year.

Last years episode's were quite boring ans it was just 'Teen week' and characters that people didn't care about.
This years seemes action packed so could pull in the loyal viewers and casual EastEnders viewers that don't watch BGT

If i remember rightly the Monday and Tuesday Enders ratings were ok but fell Thursday and Friday last year

ITV need to be clever in their adverts and time two between 7.30-8pm so they can miss one at 8pm. This should prevent such a switch over to EastEnders on Monday and Friday.

On Tuesday and Thursday they should try and hold off having an advert in the first half hour (or take it as late as possible) then have a couple between 8pm and 8.30pm.

I have the feeling the BBC will drop the News Update again like last year which will allow the BBC to start EastEnders minutes late if need be.

Tuesday and Thursdays EastEnders start early these days anyway and could possibly help if they start at 7:26/7:27 as usual

If i remember rightly the Monday and Tuesday Enders ratings were ok but fell Thursday and Friday last year
Last year Eastenders' overnights were:

Mon - 5.07m (19.5%) (hour long episode)
Tue - 6.24m (26%)
Thur - 5.01m (25.4%)
Fri - 4.34m (20.7%)

BBC3 rpt of EE:

Mon - 1.54m (8%)
Tue - 1.73m (8.3%)
Thur - 1.69m (8.2%)
Fri - 1.32m (6.6%)

And BGT full slot overnights inc HD were:

------- Performance ---------- Results ------
Mon - 10.71m (43.1%) --- 10.32m (40.3%)
Tue - 10.23m (41.2%) ---- 9.95m (39.0%)
Wed - 9.98m (45.6%) ----- 8.49m (34.2%)
Thur - 9.55m (48.2%) ----- 9.7m (41.7%) [tape checked]
Fri - 9.31m (46.3%) -------- 8.84m (39.4%)
final - 12.34m (54.6%), peak 15m (60%)

Others:

Holby City - 3.81m (15.1%)
Waterloo Rd - 2.71m (11.9%)
* Waterloo Road was going through a really bad patch that series though so it shouldn't fall that low again.

EastEnders Monday,Tues,Thurs wasn't to bad and if i remember rightly the Monday episode was made an hour-long at last minute and was actually 2 episode's put together.

Only really Fridays EastEnders rated poorly and the BBC are allready advertising that episode

Waterloo road wil hold up better now as it starts at 7:30pm and not 8

Also in the BBC's favour is many viewers might stick with EastEnders/Waterloo road and watch BGT an hour later on +1

Thanks

These "masterclass" episodes on Fridays never rate as well as the main show. Normally they rate around the 1m mark though, so last night's rating was quite low. I've noticed that MasterChef seems to be down year-on-year more often than not this series, maybe 2010 was the peak?

Thanks. The show could be levelling off now. Nothing can keep momentum forever.

ITV1 must be getting very excited this weekend. I reckon 13 million for the ECL final
..and how many for Sky? Last year ITV 3.17m against Sky's 681k (with a much longer slot).

2009 was 8.31m for ITV and 1.105m for Sky - again Sky came on air an hour before ITV.

Sorry to quote myself here but I should have mentioned the exceptional BBC3 repeats and will edit into the original post too:

Mon - 1.54m (8%)
Tue - 1.73m (8.3%)
Thur - 1.69m (8.2%)
Fri - 1.32m (6.6%)

thanks for posting, seeeing these ratings now should help put next week into context.

2 million for a BBC 3 repeat, that would be impressive.

It's currently down 8% year-on-year going by my calculations, so nothing too dramatic, but Ten will be disappointed that it appears to be losing momentum, whilst rival formats on Seven surge in popularity. The current series average is 1.394m. At the same point last year the series average stood at 1.515m.

New Nine sports quiz show Between the Lines has been boned by Channel Nine. A final episode for the show will air next Thursday night.

[Thursday] night the show hosted by Eddie McGuire pulled 518,000 viewers with its biggest audience in Melbourne at 181,000. It premiered three weeks ago with 696,000.

A Nine spokesperson told TV Tonight, “The idea was to have a bit of fun – which we did. But in this highly fragmented multi-channel environment, the show just didn’t capture sufficient audience numbers to justify continuing production. As always, nothing ventured, nothing gained, pleased we gave it a go.”

I think it may do slightly better than last year but EE viewers are quite savvy when it comes to catching up anyway, and so the BBC3 repeat (which already performs remarkably well) and iPlayer stats should see a massive boost this week.

UEFA Champions League Finals - Overnights
2005 - Liverpool 3 AC Milan 3 (Liverpool win 3-2 on penalties)
* broadcast: 10.1m (official rating)
* match average: 10.8m
* 15-minute peak: 14.6m @ 22:30

2006 - Barcelona 2 Arsenal 1
* broadcast: 9.63m (official rating)
* match average: 11.2m (45%)
* 15-minute peak: 12.2m (48%) @ 21:00

2007 - AC Milan 2 Liverpool 1
* broadcast: 7.7m (35%)
* match average: 9.6m (42%)
* 15-minute peak: 10.3m (43%) @ 21:00

2008 - Man United 1 Chelsea 1 (Man United win 6-5 on penalties)
19:00 to 23:15 - 9.6m (43%)
* match average: 11.1m (46%)
* 15-minute peak: 12.7m @ 22:00
* 5-minute peak: 14.6m (60%) @ 22:30

2009 - Barcelona 2 Man United 0
19:00 to 22:10 - 7.9m (34%)
* match average: 9.6m (39%)
* 15-minute peak: 10.3m (39%) @ 21:00

2010 - Inter Milan 2 Bayern Munich 0
19:00 to 22:00 - 3.1m (17%)
* match average: 3.7m (19%)
* 15-minute peak: 4.2m (20%) @ 21:15

All figures are ITV1 only.

Peak should be north of 10m tonight. I remember last year reports of the final being down ratings wise all across Europe, this will be the first real test to see if the day change has worked.

The competition is not strong, whereas in 2008 and 2009 they had a relatively strong Apprentice which still pulled 5/6m. It should do well.
