Ah I didn't know that, sorry!

So Downton Abbey actually lost quite a few viewers while it was on air, although would I be right in saying that the drop at 10pm was due to STV's 9pm programme ending and the show at 10pm rating worse whilst the 10:15pm drop was due to an early finish? The repeat clearly helped a lot.

I don't have the ITV1 HD ratings on me at the moment, but excluding HD:

Corrie: 6.5m (looking at 6.8-7m with HD)
ITV News: 4.6m (probably about 4.7-4.9m with HD)

Others: F1: Grand Prix (12:10 to 15:35): 5.06m (40.9%)
BBC News (23:20): 1.85m


Yeah, from 10pm onwards STV showed alternative programming which rated very badly and probably made that breakdown dip a further 0.2m than it actually ought to have done. Also because the lead-in was so huge (bigger than the Corrie lead-ins dramas usually get), a higher drop between a very inflated 1st 15mins and last quarter would've been expected compared to usual. I'm just surprised that didn't happen with S&B.

Very good rating for the F1 and Corrie did okayish considering the episode was on too early.

Yeah, the first 15 minutes of DA will have been even more inflated than most post-Corrie launches as the final quarter hour of TXF had 13-14m that night. Very surprising that S&B didn't drop more but it seemed like pretty easy watching and people must have liked it from the beginning.

Edit: He's now saying an average of 10.9m (but he says he might be wrong!).

If that is correct, it'd be up from last year's 10.7m for the equivalent show, and I suspect it doesn't even include +1 either.

I don't think an 11.20pm news bulletin after a 4.5m rated film was ever likely to beat a 10pm bulletin after a 7.9m rated drama - and it's not as if regular BBC 10pm news junkies, who needed their fix and couldn't navigate to News 24/Sky News, would have said "we must stay up till 11.20 for the news, we can't be watching that ITV News instead".

Then again, there might be some...

Very good indeed for the F1. I thought the farcical conclusion would have left viewers drifting off, assuming it wouldn't restart. If anything, it perhaps drew in new viewers.

Corrie didn't do great with c6.8m. Only 1.8m ahead of Countryfile. It usually wins its slot by a far greater margin than that!


Perhaps it just means "it wasn't that bad that people just switched over", but doesn't necessarily mean "they loved it so much they are bound to be back next week".

As expected there, I think. Apart, however from Egypt's Lost Cities pulling in quite a good rating and the BBC News beating the ITV News. Definitely not as bad for BBC as it could have been. ITV will be pleased, although they may be a tad disappointed that the results show was 1m lower than the main show.

27m watching TV no doubt inflated some figures last night.

BBC1's figures not too bad considering that last year against BGT Waterloo Road dropped to 2.7m. (though that figure probably doesn't include HD)

Saints And Scroungers probably a bit boosted by regional variations, especially in the nations. Decent figure for Egypt.

Even excluding +1 ITV1 looks to be up by a good few hundred thousand between 7.30 and 10pm.

Does Springwatch's ratings include HD? It continues to be a solid hit for BBC2.


edit: if Egypt can get over 4m against Corrie and BGT results then The Apprentice should be able to stay above 5m.

Wow very good for Britains got talent. I think it might get about 10.9m tonight. The Cricket highlights on channel 5 did quite well too. Not a bad night for BBC 1 and i think that Eastenders rating is ok for what it was up against.

Anyone know the match average and peak for Swansea v Reading yesterday on Sky Sports 1 please?

Excellent for BGT performances there. No episode before the final last year or this year before last night has broken 11m and it was only 1m below last year's final. I suspect it will have peaked near 13m. Very strong for Corrie there too, although perhaps just a touch low for BGT results given that the performances and Corrie were both up y-o-y. 10.2m is still very good but I didn't expect it to lose 0.5m from Corrie. Nonetheless a fantastic night for ITV.

BBC1 held up alright I think. EE was predictably dented but Lost Cities got a good rating. The Hotel Inspector held up well too.

The Gadget Show is dead.

Must be worst ever ratting

Shares are down on last year. Even excluding +1, the BGT Main show and Coronation Street look like they're up however viewership on last year. The BGT Results show, however looks like its down by a few hundred thousand on last year.

Good rating for the Britain's Got Talent, especially the first show which was up y-o-y. After the first few episodes to the series which rated below last year, the last three shows have rebounded well in the ratings. The half-an-hour gap between the performance and results show is still a problem though, losing a million viewers in between. I reckon they'd have done better if they'd just run 7.30-9.30pm in one show. Corrie did well last night, also up y-o-y which I'm a little surprised by given that last year's episodes were more publicized.

Decent night for BBC1, they didn't capitulate. EastEnders rating slightly better than last year's Monday episode (5.1m) and the Egypt documentary certainly tapped into a decent anti-BGT audience, and well up from what BBC1 had in that slot last year. Funny how despite having the much lower lead-in, BBC1 News still managed to pull ahead of ITV News by almost a million. Solid return for Springwatch - that include HD by the way, and it's on a par with what last year's same episode had. The 9pm show did very badly but they pulled it back at 10pm.

Good rating for the cricket. It was an exciting match but I thought maybe people would've forgotten to check the highlights out due to the tough competition but 1m is a strong figure. Gadget Show really struggled, if that was a new episode. Hotel Inspector held up fine.

Don't think BBC1 will be too distraught by that. EE will no doubt timeshift decently, and the BBC3 repeat may have done very well too.

EE has overnighted worse than that when up against Em[Fm], so 5.2m plus timeshift seems very decent indeed considering the half-hour BGT head start. Springwatch did ok-ish, and we know from past experience that it does usually shave a bit off EE (and Corrie).

10.9m for BGT is obviously very good, and if that's 200k up on last year, then you can't argue against that. I suppose it could be said that last year, the live shows didn't have a "Cowell return" enhancement, and it remains to be seen whether the chance to see him back caused a temporary uplift that might not be sustained all week.

I think ITV should have aired BGT in one block. The intervention of Corrie meant BGT lost 1.1m viewers.

Then again, it did boost Corrie - so in the absence of another bit of carnage-culling to inflate ratings, some Cowell life-support is probably a good way of re-introducing ITV's famously sedentary viewers to the show.

I assume that means the weather was much worse this year than last year. It persisted down where I live for much of the morning and afternoon which pretty much meant going out anywhere was a no-no.

Good points. Seems that BGT's y-o-y uplift was due to disappointing bank holiday/half-term weather resulting in more people watching telly.

I know one or two ITVistas on here say it's all about percentages. Presumably they will be focusing on the hard numbers today...?

If a similar trend happens this year, we're possibly looking at 10.5m/10.9m (exc/inc +1) for tonight's performances and a touch below 10m for the results.
