Yeah, the breakdown suggests it might fall into the low 3's next week at 8pm but I think it's probably worth doing, to ensure The Voice has the best slot and becomes as big as it can possibly be.

Is there a particular reason why NBC hasn't moved AGT to the proper season? The ratings it gets are excellent, especially by NBC standards, so one might've thought that they would move from summer. Do they keep it in summer because the competition is much weaker? I suppose in the Fall and Spring, there's the chance it would face tough competition like DWTS/TXF/Idol. I think FOX had a season of Hell's Kitchen in Fall and that didn't rate as well as the summer season, and CBS has a similar problem with Big Brother during the Writer's Strike, so maybe it's wise they're keeping AGT in the summer.

The downside of stripping it across a week is that if it turns out to be a week of really good weather (as it has this year and did last year) then all the live shows are dented whereas running it weekly lessens the effects, as the weather won't be good every Saturday.
It wouldn't need to run for as many weeks as the US show but using the format could boost the show's overall average. It could run from say early March to late May/early June and the auditions could be filmed in early November or December/early January meaning that Ant and Dec could do a Saturday night show from mid-January until BGT, so Q1 Saturdays (and Q2 Saturdays due to more BGT) would improve. Whilst it would mean that BGT and Dancing on Ice would both be running through March, BGT would be auditions and therefore only 1 hour on Saturdays so it wouldn't be a problem.”
I think having a week of live shows definitely has its advantages because the press coverage can be really concentrated in that week to get more people watching (as was especially the case in 2007-2009), although the press this year seem more interested in TXF! Also by keeping it one week it means that the series doesn't feel as drawn out as other shows and having 3 months of BGT (as well as 3-4 months of TXF) might be seen as too much and cause fatigue for the format. The weekly approach has its advantages too, as you've mentioned - the weather can make a big impact to the one week live show ratings whereas less of an impact on a weekly scheduling. It's a difficult one when balancing the pros and cons but personally I do like having the show all done and dusted within 8 weeks and not dragged out for months, but the live shows can certainly be scheduled better in terms of timings. ITV do struggle on Saturday nights in Q1/Q2 before BGT returns so it's possible they might take the approach next year that you've suggested, especially with Cowell no longer in it full-time. However personally I think what they'll do is promote either Penn & Teller Fool Us or Popstar To Operastar to that Q1/Q2 slot next year if one of them is a good-sized hit, the main reason being that next summer there'll be the Euros and Olympics which would make it difficult scheduling both of those shows. If one of them is a hit (or PSTOS takes off this series), they might as well give it a shot in January/February next year. If neither does well, they'll probably have to come up with something new or what you've suggested regarding BGT.
