I think we'll see TXF ratings down compared to last year: last year's TXF average was its best rated ever whilst BGT's wasn't its best, so the 2010 comparisons for TXF will be tougher to match than BGT. Even if exactly the same panel as last year had been involved this upcoming series, I reckon the show would've been down simply because last year's level was so high - all programmes have a peak and whilst we said that the year before and ended up being wrong, a 14.1m series average (2010) looks mighty tough to be able to match! Obviously, a lot depends on how well the new judging lineup works, so in that regard I guess we won't be able to tell until the show returns.

So only for Friday's figures can we really say "the line-up worked" as the Results show was higher than the Main show.

Are those ratings with or without HD and with or without +1?

They definitely include HD, and I'm pretty sure (90% sure) they also include +1 as that source usually posts +1-included figures.

A very strong week for Corrie then all in all. Bar Wednesday's episode, all the eps should be 10m+ in the officials. BGT did much better than I was expecting. Considering how good the weather was yesterday those figures are excellent. Hopefully the final will pull in some strong ratings tonight.

I hope Simon sees sense and realises Got Talent can now survive without him and lets the three get on with it next year. As I said earlier in the week I think his return has hampered both David and Michael as David clearly sees himself in the Simon Cowell role whilst Michael has been so eager to please Simon Cowell his own judgement has gone out of the window.

That said though with him leaving The X Factor returning for the BGT live shows keeps his toe in the water on this side of the Atlantic. Indeed perhaps after some of the acts this week we might see a revamped audition stage where he and he alone judges the open auditions.


I think TXF will undoubtedly be hit harder - Simon is much more crucial there, as are the judges as a whole - although perhaps the change in judges will shift attention back to the contestants, so they have got to be up to scratch.

Do you really Believe Simon won't return for the X Factor this year. he will pop up somewhere.

BGT is holding steady. I think, as people predict on here, TXF will fall in the ratings this year. Also the show is older than BGT and I can foresee it being pulled when the contract ends in 2013. However, don't forget both shows have probably saved ITV from bankruptcy and they have achieved ratings last seen when Maggie was still PM.

Note - for the 2010 stats, HD is excluded as one figure did not make the Top 10, ITV1 HD chart however the basis of the calculation remains the same

Looking at the respective year-on-year rises for 2010, I see the Main Show averaged 10.374m while the Results Show averaged 9.75m. The Final last year averaged 12.83m, a 23.7% increase on the average above or a 31.6% increase. However, as the Final last year was one entire show, that percentage increase is invalid, so we've got to go back to the 2009 final performance and results show to see the uplift on the Semi Finals.

The 2009 semi finals averaged 13.62m. The Main Final show averaged 16.36m, the Results show averaged 18.29m. Respectively, that is a 20.1% increase and a 34.3% increase.

Now, therefore an average increase of 21.9% and 32.95% respectively. Still with me? Good.

So far, and using the ratings posted by DS and those on the previous page, the Main Show has averaged 9.897m while the Results Show has averaged 9.39m. Overall, that is an average of 9.6435m.

I am therefore predicting for tonight:

19:00 to 21:00 - Main Show: 11.8m
21:30 to 22:00 - Results Show: 12.8m

Having done all of that, I think they'd be disappointment if the Results Show rating came in at 12.8m. What do you guys think?

I think ITV will be pleased with BGT this year. The later auditions and live shows have been very similar to last year which is pretty much what I said they'd be looking for before the series. Given that some of the live shows haven't been up to much (didn't see last night but Wednesday & Thursday were poor) I think the ratings are pretty encouraging. And it seems that it's all set up should Simon leave entirely - The Hoff seems happy to take over the role of a more demanding judge. I think the 3 person panel would probably have worked quite well together this week. I still think the indications are that the week long stripped format is no longer required.

I'd agree with what has been said about X Factor. Early indications are that the new judges are doing pretty well together.

Oh please. TXF has not even been shown yet. You aways go on about the death of ITV's shows. Just stop going on about it Glenn. Even if TXF falls to lets say 10 million it will still be one of the most watched shows on TV

Its a very long way down for X Factor. Even if 50% of the audience drop off it will still have 7m viewers and ITV would still keep it.

If it did drop to 7 million viewers I reckon ITV would not have a choice, it would be too humilliating for Cowell and he would ensure it was dropped. Ofcourse thats not going to happen anytime soon.

AQOS has been rating quite low recently and yesterday's episode rated 1m below last year's episode which faced BGT - not sure if the episodes this year are repeats whereas last year they might've been new ones? I think that's HIGNYF 2nd lowest ever rating on BBC1 - an episode a couple of years ago which faced BGT had 3.51m. Gardener's World rated about the same as the same episode last year, whilst The Mentalist was down 180k but faced tougher competition last night (Corrie instead of TV Burp repeat).

I think this year will see TXF fall in the ratings with a new panel and no Cowell. A lot of people are getting fed up with the way this mediocre singing competition is hyped all the time. It will still do well, of course, but I reckon ratings will be down by about 20pc this year, same as American Idol is in decline in America. Also when the contract ends in 2013, Cowell will move on.

Oh yes, but considering there were reports of them moving both the semi-final and final to an arena I think that is when he'll show up, especially as the US version will likely be wrapped up by then.

And who knows, perhaps he'll help Louis at Judges Houses!

TXF will still do well, but ratings could slip considerably this year. I reckon it will go when the contract ends in 2013.

Regarding The X Factor and decline, even if each series from now say lost 15% on the previous series...

...it would still take a few years for it to drop to under 7m. Besides, I doubt it'll drop that much, probably 10%, but not 15%.

Those who are fed up with it probably aren't watching, so I'd love to know your grounds for saying people are getting fed up of it. American Idol started lower but towards the end was up year on year, so next years show could well see an increase.

You are getting to be like a broken record on this. If Cowell is no longer directly involved by 2013 his enthusiasm or otherwise is of no concern to the longevity of the show. The contract date is meaningless too - it can be renewed or exited early.

It will end when it ceases to earn money for ITV (given the ad revenue is about £100m versus a cost of about £20m - that will take quite a ratings decline) or when ITV can replace it with something that rates even higher (no sign of that show anywhere just yet!)

I would be surprised if its less than 13 million for the results, there is nothing elsewhere to pull the casual viewer so Im sure they will migrate to see who wins.
