Humax Foxsat HDR lip sync problem
Bat-man
16-05-2011
I have noticed that, especially after I've paused a recorded programme and then re-started it, that the lip sync goes 'off'. Stopping the recording and then re-starting it cures the problem. I noticed this firstly with Ch4HD recordings but have noticed it also, very occasionally with other HD channels.
Any one else having this problem?

I have seen this in the past but not for months now. It used to happen very occasionly when tuning to HD channels with ac3 audio. Not seen this one for maybe a year or more.

I have been busy for some days setting up and using the NET facilities of the new Panny.. Facebook.. Twitter..Skype.. and Utube of course..
Panny immediately rectified their Audio issue with an update so we have been enjoying Freeview HD for some days..
So impressed that I Then i went to Tesco Slough to buy a Technica box and updated that in accord with these excellent Forums..
The Humax was left to record progs as ever..
Yesterday we started on the backlog and straight away saw the Lip-Sync problem..even when not played back via the Home Cinema system..
on the HD stuff recorded..
As you say Batman a switch-off sorts things out.. but gives a poor impression of the Humax after the sophisticated responses of the Panny..
I was about to update my Humax.. so it's not the latest UD..How do you stand on that aspect Batman?

I am using the current system (ie: search for updates - new new updates...) not the beta version which is apparently due for OTA download sometime soon.

Yes, I've had this. Never really spotted a pattern to it (I'm not convinced it's isolated to HD). As you say, stop and then resume fixes it.

Cheers,
David.

Yes, this happens a lot if you skip, jump or review backwards or forwards in recordings, both SD and HD.
The other week when BBC had their own lip-sync problems on F1 I must have tried stopping and resuming a dozen times before I heard Jake admit it was their problem and not the dumb box.

I think this may relate to how you take your audio. If I use the HDMI audio via my TV's internal speakers, I find no fault (except that the speakers are crap). Normally however I take the analogue audio from the FoxSat into my main amplifier and the lipsync delay on the FoxSat is set to 120ms to compensate for the TV's video delay. But if I use the shuttle facility and then resume playback, it seems the audio delay is set to zero and I then have to stop and resume playback to restore it. Bringing up the menu option for setting the delay, also immediately restores it. This behaviour is repeatable, not intermittent. I've reported it to Humax and await a reply.

I use the HDMI audio to the TV speakers and I still get the problem.

I think that's what triggers it here too. Got so used to automatically pressing stop then resume that I don't really think about it. It doesn't happen that often.

SCART into a 50Hz CRT here, so it's definitely due to the Humax.

Cheers,
David.

I think It is also worse I think if you have the lip-sync setting set and it forgets to apply it after pause.

Had a CRT until last Thursday. Never had lip sync issues except on certain channels with known problems. Got a new HD TV now and do get them (both SD and HD) but haven't established a pattern. I've only just started experimenting with lip sync settings.

No, a Samsung. My old CRT was a JVC widescreen with surround sound.

OK (there is a known problem with LG TV's). Try turning off Dolby Digital in the hdrs TV setup menu.

I had to back off lip sync delay on my Foxsat HDR from 175ms to 120ms after the change.
