Edna's lack of self-esteem.

I'm sure people have already picked up on the fact she has a massive chip on her shoulder, despite agreeing and not liking her at all - I am a bit more understanding and think people should give her a break.

Maybe their are reasons why she is so full of herself and has the attitude towards people she has??

It's a classic symptom that I can see in her - can't accept any sort of failure due to low self esteem, doesn't want to and can't acknowledge that it's ok not to be perfect at everything all the time and unfortunately for her all this manifests itself in her thinking she is an amazing 'people person' when she is infact the opposite - proven by her terrible pitch and how she came across.

we might find that Edna will excel at some task and that would boost her self-confidence in a realistic way. she needs to self-audit...

Whatever Edna has, low self esteem is NOT part of it. If anything she has (far) too much of it!

Only on these sorts of publicity hungry shows do you seem to find people with such over inflated opinions of themselves.

The last thing I would accuse Edna of is lack of esteem when the opposite is the case.

This might give a clue as to why Edna said she was the best to do the presentation

Edna is more likely to be suffering from high, rather than low self esteem, which is why she comes across as abrasive.

I wouldn't deny that there is a great possibility that she has low self esteem, as many of us do! I sympathise with anyone that has insecurity issues because of course if can be very hindering.

However....I would say though that, possibly in equal measure, she also suffers from a false sense of importance that ties itself in with so too having a put-on degree of confidence (which I think is replicated by many people in business).I think any signs of weakness can reflect badly on your ability for the job and, as we saw in her VT, Edna doesn't like a weak handshake which prob demonstrates how important the outward impression is for her.

I don't rule out the possibility that someone with low self esteem might over-compensate and come across as cocky.

But I just don't sense that's the case with Edwina. If anything, I think she suffers from delusions of grandeur.

Whllst I would describe Edna as austere and self-disciplned, I'm wondering if someone could enlightened me as to why Edna supposedly "has a chip on her shoulder"? Who or what on earth has she got a 'chip on her shoulder' about?

It seems this banal and hackneyed expression is used quite frequently by one who ironically seem to have a dislike or grudge against certain people who look and behave in a way different to themselves. Hmm, It makes one wonder who really has the chip.

I agree. It is such an overused expression. I would also be interested in finding out what she has 'chip on her shoulder' about.

I thought Edna came over excellently on You've Got Fired last night. She was charming, thoughtful, light-hearted at times..generous to the other contestants. It was a shame that she appeared to take a back seat in some of the recent tasks , but based on Dara's show she was the very reverse of someone with a chip on her shoulder.

Indeed.

Every company has people like this.

I used to work with a woman who was the "senior site coordinator". There wasn't actually a junior site coordinator, or any other site coordinators for that matter but I digress.

She used to sit in an office all day and phone around to get parts for fitters, book flights, arrange hotel rooms, book taxis, hire temporary staff and then go on about just how invaluable she was.

Except when she was on holiday or sick, at which point people would book their own flights and hotel rooms, fitters would order their own parts and temporary staff would come and go as required.

People like Edna DO have a place in business but they're deluded if they think the world can't do without them.
