I really like the Canadian all-female band Lillix's debut album "Falling Uphill" (featuring the most excellent single "What I Like About You", which can be heard in the "Freaky Friday" and "13 Going On 30" soundtracks). It's guitar pop-rock that probably surpasses anything Avril or Alanis have done with any of their albums to date.

I'm not even sure if the album, which was released in May 2003, has even had a UK release yet because I can't find it on the usual UK online stores except as a US import, but it was easily one of the best albums released anywhere last year.

So is anyone else wondering why Madonna's Maverick label has not bothered trying to get Lillix in the limelight in the UK? Maybe Madge is too busy preening herself for her forthcoming way-overpriced UK tour (75-150 quid tickets for an artist that's well past her sell-by date?).

BTW, I wouldn't say it was quite the best female-fronted guitar pop-rock album I bought in 2003 though - that honour goes to...and don't laugh cos it's actually brilliant...the "Josie and the Pussycats" movie soundtrack. Kay Hanley does a great job as Josie (what, you thought Rachael Leigh Cook actually sang in the movie?! )

It's like reading a message from my kindred spirit!! I have Lillix's album - I can't say it's surpasses Avril in my opinion, but it is a quality album - don't know why they haven't attempted to break the UK yet, the songs are definitely strong enough. Their songs seem to be on so many soundtracks! Casey (lead singer) is a right looker too

2ndly - the Josie soundtrack is awesome!! Fantastic soundtrack - excellent film too, I reckon. "If you're happy and you know it clap your hands..."

If you like Lillix & Josie, try Halo Friendlies & Tuuli, two other bands in a similar vein that I like - though the Halos and Tuuli are a little more punky and less pop. Seen both of 'em live and met both the bands too when they toured here - Ginger from the Halos and Jenny from Tuuli are *gorgeous*!
