Time for The Apprentice to drop the ageism
Now that the format has changed, there isn't any excuse anymore to exclude older contestants, there are thousands of experienced 40 somethings out there who would kill for £250,000 of business support.

I don't think there is a formal age limit, but whoever picks the candidates certainly has one. Has there ever been a candidate over 40?

Matthew Palmer and Mani Sandher came close, both 39 at the time of the programme.

Plenty of them have looked over 40, just a shame they can't generally act it too.

40 year olds know enough not to make complete tw*ts pf themselves. We like to see impulsive know-it-all youngsters coming a cropper.

I suspect 40+ year olds with any business sense are quite happy doing what they're doing and getting what they're getting without risking The Apprentice trashing their career and livelihood by publicly exposing them as muppets!

^^ What about people who want a career change? There are plenty of people out there who have natural business flare but never had the opportunty or money to set up their own business or women who have had children but want to get into business. Some people just end up going into the job that is most convenient at the time or the one that offers more stablity, some might have not had the confidence in their 20s. I think it would be a great idea to let older people have a chance, if they dont turn out to be right for the job then they wont get hired so I dont see the harm. It certainly seems ageist to me and I'm getting quite sick of seeing arrogant 20-somethings who have little to offer.

Hear hear. I have a friend who is around 50 (but still enjoys clubbing etc
and he would be great. I encouraged him to apply for a previous series and he did but got nowhere - and then when I saw the show I realised they'd just picked young people for that series.Lets have some older people in it who have been around the block and actually know how to give a pitch - or would that ruin the fun? |
