Our New Puppy - Excited Wee Wee's !!!

Hi Everyone,

We have a new addition to out four legged family - Molly a 15 Week Old Staffy/Lab Cross (Someone tied her to the gate at the local rescue centre )

Anyways, The toilet training is going very well, only the odd accident in the house and only using the training mat when we ae out .

The problem is when she gets excited or when we approach her to take her out for a wee before bed. She gets uber exited and just wee's on the spot! Just laying down or whatever position she is in. We had some friends come over on sunday and within the space of 2 minutes she had wee'd about 7 times in various places out of excitment.

I suppose the questions i am asking is - is this normal, is she scared of us??? & how long will it last?

Otherwise she is a beautifully playful pup! And a welcomed Sister For my 3 Year old Jack Russell.

Could be one of two things. Does she look happy? Tail wagging etc? If so it's purely excitement and she will grow out of it. It goes without aying hat you shouldn't encourage the excitement by talking to her when approaching etc. Simply go about it in a formal manner. Don't even look her in the face.

One other thing it couldbe is submissive behaviour. It's common for dogs to urinate as a sign of submission to avoid being attacked. But if it's only when she's being taken out that she exhibits this behaviour I'd guess it's excitement.

Cheers for the reply, i definatly think its excitment as when we approach her tail is wagging that much her back end is wobbling from side to side . ill try the non speaking formal approach as up to now ive been telling her to come and then going to pick her up.

Lets see how it goes........

Don't worry after 6 years our staffy still does exactly the same thing usually when the OH has been working away for a while (which is rare) and then she normally gets very embarrassed about it all

Aww bless - she is just all excited to see you. We had this problem with our jack russell. I don't really know what the answer is - we just used to buy extra kitchen roll at the shops!

Well done for rescuing her though..

Aww cute! Our rescue dog did the same when she was excited and everything was new but she soon grew out of it. I'll never forget when she caught sight of herself in a full length mirror and wee'd in fright! Poor thing!!

Our Jack Russell Candy still wees out of excitement now and she is over 2 years old! If we meet someone on our walk she wees and even if we go to her to pick her up she wees. The vet said she has an 'excitable bladder' and it is unlikely she will grow out of it.
She isnt scared as she is wagging her tail all the time - just over excited (not ideal as we have just had a new carpet!!!)
