Hi there

I've got a Blackberry Bold 9780. I have all my music and pictures on a separate memory card (4gb) which is obviously inserted into the phone.

As I use email a fair bit on it and indeed the calender, writing up alot of entries etc.. I got thinking "How much memory does the phone have to hold this sort of thing" - mainly text obviously...

I understand it comes with 512k memory inbuilt (is this right?) and if this is right, I've gone into options, then Device, then Device and Status Information. Here I get a screen telling me about the phone signal, battery life and something called "File Free" - is this basically the internal phone memory?

If so it says: 219270055 bytes.

Is this quite a lot still?

Assuming of course this is the internal phone memory (which I guessing it must be as I can see the memory left on the card by going into another option) presumably this would mean I could still store quite a few text emails and text calender entries?

Cheers for any help!

No, that's not right.

It's got 256 MB of storage (and by info it looks like you've got 219MB free. It also has 512MB of RAM - that's what the phone uses for running apps.

Info from here: http://www.gsmarena.com/blackberry_bold_9780-3431.php

So you've got 219MB free for emails & text.

Oh yes, you're right - thanks....

Any idea if this equates to *alot* of calender text entries or text emails?

If it's just text storage, yes that should hold quite a bit. Take a look at any text emails or word documents you have on your PC to see the sizes there, and then take into account that BlackBerry servers tend to compress and optimise the documents they process.

Yes, I am just referring to some calender entries that I make and text emails - not that many I guess really....

Just really concerned at the calender entries just to make sure I am gonna be able to keep adding the odd text entry into it here and there for some time to come...

Cheers for your help, appreciated

PS - just checked some of the email properties on my pc emails and they tend to range from 20kb -80kb at most...guess that's quite a few emails based on this kind of size?

You're going to be fine, I have a BB Torch and have had it for months and like you my calender is totally mental plus I use it for work and personal email. None of that is on the storage card and it's insanely empty.
