I think this is a great idea because since Jade Goody passed away the amount of women who have routine smears has fell and the cervical cancer rate is rising - it's a nasty disease my stepdad's sister has been fighting it on & off for 8 years and it's now terminal. I hate going for a smear test as do many women so I guess this will highlight why it's so important. But let's hope the complainers keep their mouths shut and EE don't end it early ike they did with baby swap

It could have been good for Kat to be given a storyline like this but frankly I'm sick of misery been heaped on her and her been miserable - Kat has never and will never be a tragic character unless BK decides to change that and turn her into the next Ronnie I think it's time we got back the Kat we know and love who faces her demons head on and is the life and soul of the Vic / Square and not a nagging, miserable wife that should be left to Zainab now.

The cancer storyline is a really really good one actually, I can't even remember what the last cancer storyline they did in EE was. Was it Dot's scare? And before that Peggy had breast cancer but I don't think they've touched on it since. And cervical cancer will be really good to raise awareness and help more women/girls go and get smears done. A girl I went to school with was 25 years old and died from cervical cancer it was so sad, heartbreaking in fact. So well done EE for tackling this storyline.

I'm on the fence about wanting Kat to have been the one to do this storyline. On the one hand its a fantastic storyline, one that will break your heart and could win lots of awards if done correctly and I think Jessie would be INCREDIBLE in the scenes required. But on the other hand I agree with you Claire, Kat's been miserable enough for the last SIX months and she's not a tragic character with misery after misery heaped upon her. And she'd probably be crying buckets of tears during this storyline. I don't know I was all for Kat having this storyline last night and now I'm a bit more in the middle. This would be better than an affair and storyline with the kids :sleep: Plus it wouldn't be really tragic if she beat it and was in remission. I think I'm veering slightly back to wanting Kat to have done this storyline

Hopefuly there is something they can do with Kat that doesn't involve an affair or children (she's not Bianca either ) what would have been a good angle would have been for Alfie to get it and them really testing her love for him, showing how she really does depend and need him and that would shut up all the critics out there as well as been soething for Jessie to get her teeth into as well. People forget that when when someone has cancer it affects not just the person who is fighting cancer as well and I should personally know as I lost my Nana to cancer and although my dad beat cancer the after affects were awful and he spents God knows how many years with it until he lost his fight for life and all of this affected the family especially those closest to them.

I think the last cancer storyline was Dot and I know Peggy had it - but we've never had a man with cancer and for someone so happy about life etc it would have been a good twist for someone like Alfie to get it, it would have shown more depth to his character as well.

That actually would be a BRILLIANT storyline Claire, they've not had a man have cancer in EE from what I can remember. They could have done a testicular cancer storyline with Alfie, they could have also tested his sperm too and he would have known he wasn't firing blanks so that would have been the light at the end of the tunnel after months of battling the disease that he found out he was Tommy's Dad. Awwh that would have been so good and another chance for Shane to show everyone he can really act. Plus like you said it would show how much Kat actually loves him, oh wow that could have been amazing actually. DAMN YOU TO HELL EE!!!!

I don't think there's a family in the world that's not been affected my this awful disease and how heartbreaking it is. My uncle is currently battling it and has to go for a double dose of chemo tomorrow, he'll be sick for weeks after it now. Its awful when you lose loved one's because of it.

Either way with this storyline, even though it won't be Alfie or Kat battling it I'm glad they've decided to do it. If it saves the life of just ONE person Eastenders will have done their job so well done to them for doing this.

Exactly cancer unfortunately affects everyone or someone they know and it is a subject that does need to be highlighted and handled with dignity and care. I hope as it's cervical cancer it will raise more awareness that smear tests although awful have to be done and it's only once every 3 years so it's that bad - my next one is next years I'm dreading it but I will go for it.

And that would have definitely been a better storyline Mary especially as something like testicular cancer is something men shy away from and is not widely known about either so would have been a good thing to do especially if the outcome would have been to show the depth of Kat's love for Alfie and it turning out Tommy is his. Now EE will probably go down the predictable route of Tommy falling ill and needing blood or something and it turns out Alfie's a match

Sorry to hear about your Uncle, big hugs to you Mary and hopefully no matter how awful the chemo is he will pull through this and win his fight against cancer but if he's as strong willed as you seem to be I'm sure he will be just fine

The testicular cancer storyline would have been brilliant like you said Claire its something that men are embarrassed about and it needs awareness raised to try and get men to go and get checked out. I think EE have made a blunder here, even though its great they're doing the cervical cancer storyline it would have been amazing to do one with Alfie and male cancer. I guess we can look forward to affairs, fighting, splitting up/getting back together/splitting up for Kalfie in the future :sleep:

Awh thanks Claire, the outlook was really bleak for it in the beginning but he's responding really well to treatment and there's a glimmer of hope and as long as there's hope there's something.

Yup it seems that's what we now have to look forward to with Kalfie, the worrying thing is if Kalfie are going to be given mediocre crap storylines then both Shane and Jessie may think about leaving again and I really wouldn't blame them

I'm glad your Uncle is responding well to the treatments and exactly as long as there is hope then that is always something and better than nothing at all

I think an illness is a really good storyline to give any actor/actress if done correctly it could be a fantastic poignant storyline with beautiful and heartbreaking scenes. I'm at a loss thinking about other storylines for Kat really and I think EE are struggling to find storylines for Kat and Alfie other than what I mentioned and they've already been done to death with the 2 of them. :sleep:

Ooh gwan Jack!!!!!!!!! I hope he beats Michael to within an inch of his life, its a pity Eddie comes to his rescue. Michael deserves to get his ass kicked for his wicked, vile behaviour. I really want Alfie to give him what for though. I wonder will they be told that Michael was lying the entire time about Ronnie wanting to steal Tommy again? I'd love for Alfie to have it out with him once and for all but I'm sure we'll get to see that eventually!!!
