Is the narrator under-appreciated?

Come on, let's hear it for Mark Halliley, the voice of The Apprentice

I wish they'd employ him on Ice Road Truckers. The VO they use is awful.

Which channel? The History Channel Scottish guy is pretty good. Can't standard the Channel 5 bloke though.

As it's a highly unusual name, I wonder if Mark is any relation to John Le Mesurier whose real name was Halliley?

I love Mark Halliley. He has narrated every series since Series 1, including Young Apprentice, the Comic Relief and Sport Relief specials, and he even took over from Jon Briggs on Weakest Link: Apprentice Special!

I don't think the series would be so recognisable without him.

Yeah, now i think about it, its definitely an under appreciated part of the program

Yes, I think he does a good job. His voice isn't irritating and he doesn't make crass remarks. Very understated and professional.
[If only Come Dine with Me had a narrator that didn't make smutty childish schoolboy remarks and innuendos constantly, he makes me switch off].

Doesn't look how I imagined! I thought he had hair. His voice sounds like he has hair. He's also known for doing the narration for CH5's Hotel Inspector.

I think some of his remarks are a lot more stupid now than they were at the beginning - it annoys me, for example, how in the 'previously' recap, everything he says about the final boardroom people is some kind of analogy to do with the task. In the old days, it was a lot more documentary-style. However, I'm sure this is not his decision. I bet he doesn't write it himself, he probably just reads from a script that they give him. The same can probably be said for the Come Dine With Me guy.

I find the way he structures his sentences to be rather irritating.

"In the kitchen... Francesca."
"Leading the pitch... Myles."
"Annoying this Apprentice fan... the narrator."

Yeah, but I'm sure he gets told to do that.

The worst narrator has to be Evan Davis on Dragon's Den.

"I'm here for £10k of your money for 10% of my business."

Evan Davis, "Charlie is looking for £10k for 10% of his business."

He's like Sigourney Weaver in Galaxy Quest, repeating whatever someone else has just said. I have absolutely no idea why he is there.

I can't recall the narrator on the Apprentice ever annoying me, so he must be doing a good job. Although Super_Furry has amused me and I'm sure I'm going to notice this now!

It's like having accidentally turned on Audio Description.

Yes, the narrator is under appreciated. He does an excellent job of guiding the viewing audience in a clear, concise and enthusiastic way. He doesn't overkill the narration and that's what he should be applauded for because he doesn't talk over the programme too much.

Mark does a great job!

Mind you ,so do the cameramen, editors and composer - it's almost flawless from a technical level.

Spot on! I used to enjoy the programme, but he irritates me beyond belief.

The only thing I don't like is the way he says "korter-million" for "quarter-million"!

I have to say, until a few months back I thought that Evan Davies was the narrator of The Apprentice. They have a similar voice.
