Hi, Im new to Freesat as of today and I have only just figured out all I need to know about my Humax Foxsat HDR box.

Now I know how to do series recordings will they fail if I have the box on Standby?

For example... I set a series recording for something to air in the morning each week. I usually sleep in and left my old Virgin Media V+ box on standby until I watch TV. Can the same be done with this box?

Thanks.

Use low power sby, in fact the box needs to be in sby overnight to allow various housekeeping routines like building the chapter thumbnails and on the latest firmware to update the channel line up. In full sby power consumption is less than 1W

For series / accurate recording the box comes out of sby 15 mins or so before a recording is due to start (The time is displayed). In this mode pressing the on button will give you an instant full boot.

Ah ok I see. I have just done a test now. I have recorded something for 6-7pm and put it on standby and noticed it stays blue and has a time.

So when I have no recording it will just show a red light and no time? and would it come back on again 15 minutes before each scheduled recording?

EDIT: The light underneith the little screen on the box is now red but time is still on. Im guessing this is right.

If the time is still on and a recording is not due in the next 15 mins or ongoing this will normally mean that power saving in sby is turned off. Yes it will wake 15 mins before a series or accurate recording. For manual recordings you won't get the 15 minute period as it knows when you want it to start recording.

In your case the box will go into full sby after the recording completes.

Basically you don't have to worry about it. Just press the sby button when you don't want to watch. It will look after itself

Hi, if you switch the box off in Non freesat mode will it automatically change to freesat mode if there is a scheduled recording at a later time , and will it come out of standby ok to record this ?

Yes provided it's more than 15 mins away. Additionally if you enter non-freesat more than 15 mins from a due freesat recording it will warn you and default back to freesat mode to await the recording. If you happen to be recording the default is to terminate the recording and do as above. If a recording is due in the next 15 mins when entering non-freesat mode then recording won't start until you manually go back to freesat mode. Phew

Some postings however say that the switch back is not reliable, in testing I never found a problem.

How are enjoying your new pvr ?
