Looking for 5.1 Surround System
Gaz82
19-05-2011
Hi all,

I'm looking for a 5.1 surround sound system with at least two optical inputs but with the amp built into the subwoofer instead of a separate unit! Don't want to spend megabucks and it doesn't have to be too powerful as it's only for a living room, but I don't have any more space on the TV stand for another set top box!

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Cheers,
Gaz

Perhaps the best bet for your needs is this...

http://www.richersounds.com/product/...y-htx22hdx-blk

If comes as a 2.1 system but with the addition of this...

http://www.richersounds.com/product/...nky-sks22x-blk

It becomes a full 5.1 system. And you get what is pretty much the equivalent of a full AV amp stuffed into the back of the sub. It has all the connectivity you could ever want so should do you for whatever kit you want to hook up.

Seconded. This system gets my vote. Meets the built in amp and 2 optical in requirements. Sounds fantastic for the money. When we first got these in stock we were gobsmacked at just how good it sounds given its price.

As for "megabucks", mooghead, this is pretty much entry level. Doesn't perform like entry level though. Punches well above its weight.

Hardly surprising when you look at their pricing and how they pitch their product offering squarely towards the budget market enthusiast.

No. The Onkyo is strictly at the lower end of the price scale for anything approaching decent AV kit.

If you want a real megabucks system them may I suggest this

My amplifier cost over a £1000.00 and the speakers close to the same. Sure it's a lot more versatile in having lots of inputs and multizone capability (which I needed) and lots of power for a big room but while sounding fantastic is it going to be 6-8 times better than the system linked. No it's not especially in a smaller space. Is the small price premium over all in one crap worth it, you bet it is

A bargain certainly not megabucks

My colleagues and I at the hifi store that I managed at the time. The Onkyo never failed to impress when demonstrated. For someone in the market for this sort of product it's a no brainer. Excellent value for money.

By sheer coincidence this months Which (for what its worth) in the Top 100 shops rated by their customers list Richer Sounds first at at 86%. Next is Lush at 84% but hardly relevant here . Currys comes in at 64%

In many years of intererest in Hi-Fi I can say they have always offered impeccable customer support (no connection by the way )
