Fillet steak.
Why didn't they go to Smithfield? It is only a short walk away from the Savoy!

How long does smithfield stay open? They didn't get going 'til 11:30 (well team Gavin anyway)
IIRC Smithfield opens at stupid o'clock but shuts quite early too. |

I said exactly the same to my wife - Smithfields the no.1 wholesaler for fresh meat was nearby and nobody thought to check it out - even asking a porter there where to go would have solved a problem.

Smithfields is only open Monday - Friday 03.00 to 10.30 AM approx, so they were far too late to go there.

Remember you have to get a discount on the starting price - not sure the Asda drones are allowed to do that

You have to get things as cheaply as possible, and they must at least try and get a discount. If the supplier won't give a discount there's no penalty on the score is there?

Yes but last weeks task was a double edged sword, you had to get good quality to satisfy the Savoy as well as a reasonable price. Any old meat especially would not do for the Savoy . I'm sure they would want to know the provenance, I know I would..
Even the Savoy will use low cost things if the quality matches their spec, they said as much in the show. Provenance for lightbulbs and ice isn't much of an issue for instance. |
