Oh no don't go! I totally agree, I hated Bren at first too. When I first saw him, and he was blatently using the girls like Carmel and stealing from Chez, I really really didn't like him. I didn't even like him after the first kiss with ste (or when he made ste kiss him) because it was all so manipulated. It was only when we began to learn more about him, his battle with himself, his complexities and his family, that I began to like him.

I hate that he has to have that element of control over Ste, and I can bear so much violence, but destroying things with noel and manipulating everything in Ste's life does worry me. Sure, I will love to watch and enjoy the jealousy, and dancing, but when I really think about what it means, I don't like it. (sorry guys) Imo, it only proves how far Brendan still has to go, and his extreme possessiveness and need for a hold over Ste is awful, becuase while he is so unpredictable and uncomforable in himself, it will always be Ste getting beaten, and this manipulation is a sad way of Brendan trapping Ste into that type of relationship. While I appreciate it is a DV storyline, and this is part of that, I just find it distressing to watch.

What I ultimately want, is them to have sometime appart, maybe where Declan Oileen and Chez help Brendan with his issues, and he gets help with his anger, so that him and Ste can sit down and talk properly. Although I ship them badly, I do not want to see a continually abusive relationship where Brendan feeds off that power he creates, and Ste is too scared to leave, so unless they BOTH work throught their problems, because Ste is in no way innocent, he plays the mind games and has hurt Brendan physically and emotionally too, I don't want them together. Not that I want Ste with noel either though.

I also want to learn more about how both their pasts affects the relationship (or any kind - friendship or something more) that they may ultimately have. Because, Brendans past obviously affects him badly even now, and for Ste to have been abused by every man he has ever loved (parents or Brendan) he has to have issues with it. I have already said, this is why I belive he is with noel, because of the need for safety and security, rather than putting his feelings first.

I agree with everything you said, but this stood out mainly because Ste and Brendan are so similar in a way that they've both probably had rough childhoods, they both tried kill themselves (Granted for very different reasons.) and have both got trouble with violence.

It's just annoying me, really. I mean, Ste's obviously partially to blame for some of it but I'm just growing a bit tired of the games, and the need for control cos it's just not what I want to see anymore. It was exciting to see at first, but now I'm just worried I'll get bored of the whole thing, no matter how brilliant Emmett and Kieron are.

I am sure he does have some influence, not sure how much mind you but from reading his interview he seems pretty happy for them to take him down the path of getting worse rather than better.

What the end game will be is anyones guess but I'm not expecting him to stop his games anytime soon,

In fact I don't really want him to but I can certainly understand why people are upset with the direction things are taking.

I wouldn't be too worried about Ste yet, yes he is being manipulated and tortured but I reckon he might have a few tricks up his own sleeves.

But Emmett always wanted Brendan to be hated, so I don't think he'd actually mind if people started hating his character. It's what he wanted in the first place.

I know Emmett will be fantastic, whatever they give him. But I want to see development, rather than moonhead seducing. Even though it is giving us gaybar dancing.

ETA: And something else that I was wondering about, Emmett's tweet about a new chapter. At the moment, I actually don't think he meant it'd be a good one after all he's said about Brendan being even more dangerous than he already was.

Need to catch up but from the brief bit of the thread I read this morning:
I liked last night's mostly because - yay he was back, and also I've got to the point where I have to lower my expectations in terms of what the show are planning for him as everytime I think "yay progress!" Brendan goes and thumps Ste in Cat Friday-esque episodes.

I happy for Brendan to be a bastard and true to his dick-ish ways but not for good, we know he's 3D if he's being a dick with an edge of dark humour constantly and we don't see the softer side then I fear the show will border on panto/2D villain. Don't want. I don't want Brendan to be Aaron from Emmerdale either but I don't think anyone wants snotty crying 24/7 and sexless interactions - not even possible for Brendan .

I'm greedy, I want him to be a bastard some of the time and see the vulnerable stuff too, don't think they need to be mutually exclusive as the show has proved in the past. And now - catch up time.

While I don't think I will lose interest in Brendan and Ste, I do need the sl to go somewhere, because it does feel like we are still in the same place we were back in november last year. Brendan is still violent and in denial, and Ste is still going off with someone else and saying he feels nothing for Brendan, even though he does, with sex and abuse continually circling it all. Granted, the murder and outing and now the noel seduction are all brilliant, and Emmett and Kieron perform amazingly everytime, but I want to see more development now. They can't string this out forever, and although some weeks we have had huge drama, like the outing, I don't feel it has really had any impact on where the story is going.

Thats what I hope these 'dark' scenes we have coming up, and the stuff with deccy and Oileen create - a new impact and some overall indication of where this is going, and what we can expect. Saying that, Emmett wouldn't hang around if he wasn't enjoying what he was doing, and so he must be getting good, new stuff, or he would be unenthusiastic and have left by now.

Yeah, I also love the fact that they're both f*cked up and have so much in common, but watching two people continue to f*ck each other over is hard, right? There's gonna be no Brendan/Ste/Amuh/Lee double date now. This saddens me.

I don't have a problem with Brendan's need to feel in control because for me that's the thing I strongly relate to about him. It's one of the things that makes him more human, because a lot of people fear if they lose control of their emotions and relationships, they lose it all together.

I suppose the difference with Brendan, being a sociopath, is his need to be in control drives him to extremes and hurting those around him. But it's certainly not something he can just decide to change himself overnight, it's part of his psychology. The man needs help, damnit Though who'd be able to give it to him I have no idea at this point.

It will be interesting to see this new, out!Brendan. Because like Emmett said, it gives him more freedom and I expect he'll just totally lose his grip on reality before something knocks it back into him at his lowest point.

I'm actually quite disappointed tonight's is not the dancing episode because I doubt tonight's will live up to last night's awesome.

One of my favourite bits was
"We all have to see it each other every day don't we...yeah we do," the comic timing of that was hilarious!

Oh I don't want that either! I wouldn't even say the crying was when I would call him most vunerable, I would say scenes like when Amuh told him about Raes pregnancy and the scene where chez threw the coins and he confessed to pete about how he felt after the accident.
I love the badassery and the fun times with Brendan, and I would never want that to stop, I just feel this type if controll, messing with the rest of Ste's life, is too much.


Having said that, I also agree with all of this. If it was a normal level of control, or simple manipuation even, I wouldn't feel half as bad, but like Elle said, I don't think he even realises the dangerous extemes he goes to Oh I am being a negative nancy () here, someone shut me up...

You do know that whenever people start getting worried about the story, you are rock solid guaranteed* to get the most stonking episode ever that is made of 22 carat Brendan gold. It's a fact.

Exactly. I enjoyed last night too, very much. Yes, Brendan needs to have control, but even if he doesn't fully understand why himself, we know to a certain extent what's behind it.

The whole need for vulnerability thing, I get totally get that. But very rarely do we see a completely unvulnerable, cold Brendan, with the exception of episodes like passion turns to punches where he is just out of it and very detached from the situation. Take last night, for instance, when Ste was challenging him outside. For me that was Brendan being shaken out of his comfort zone, at least for a moment, and showing his vulnerability.
