Ah I always love your posts. I think Brendan needs to control people because he's so scared of people leaving him, which as you said makes him more human. Take skatepark scene for example, all it took was Ste saying 'you're on your own' and he broke down. I think this has been said before but Brendan seems to push Ste further and further away with the manipulation and the violence and as Emmett said it's about the power, he wants to see if Ste will come back. But I also recognise something vulnerable there that he needs to know no matter how far he goes, Ste will be his. That's why the hosptial scene was so key to it all, Brendan completely broke down because Ste took back the power and severed the tie (temporarily
)
I still think Pete should help him but maybe Declan being around will. Or even Eileen, they were married after all even if it wasn't technically a real marriage to Brendan. If out Brendan is like the Brendan dancing in nightclubs chatting up men I will be happy
