I just had a real dodgy phone call!

Thanks to everyone who has responded ... I thought I was special and the only one but it would seem I am just a number ....

There are certainly a few street wise ones out there who can tell a scam from the first few words, I'm afraid I have been little less suspiscious (but am getting that way).

I will run one of these spyware/virus programmes mentioned above to check I am safe, but as I said the laptop is purely used for internet surfing and i never log onto any sites with a password on that one.

I will also run something on my PC to check that too.

Maybe you should just ask them to hold while you get the right person to talk to then just leave them waiting. See how long they stay on for. If they lose a lot of money on the calls, then they will have less to scam vunerable people.
