Yay!!Aaliyah is at No.65 on VH1's list of the greatest songs of the 2000's!!!That's so amazing for an artist who only released 5 songs in the 00's!!!So glad she's getting recognition becuase she's been quite overlooked by mainstream media lately

Angel... nothing more, nothing less.

She's one of my earliest music memories (I'm 17 lol) but yh that Rock the boat vid was one of the first vids to capture me. Oh and her compilation album is fantastic too.

(Welcome to the forums )
I'm even younger than you are, but seeing Aaliyah's videos on TV back then (even if I had no idea what she was talking about ) is one of my earliest music related memories too.Especially the 'More Than A Woman' and the 'Try Again' videos

R.I.P.

hahaha I know EXACTLY what you're on about not "knowing what she was talking about" I think I was about 16 when I heard 'rock the boat' and took in the lyrics and understood what she was on about!!

I really hope the biopic rumours are true.I heard something by an Aaliyah fan at a blog and three other people co-signed with him/her, so it's not like a ridiculous rumour.I think I can hope for it

Oh and also a new updated version of the 'Miss You' remix by pcbh168.Since I posted the original here, I thought I should post the re-worked one here too

Same! I heard there's a director already and Drake may do the soundtrack and Keshia Chante will play Aaliyah - it better all be true. But I don't get why the soundtrack couldn't just be Aaliyah songs.

I don't really mind.I would LOVE it if it included unreleased Aaliyah songs, but they probably want something new by a current artist to attract more public, which is good.Actually, all I want is a good movie to establish her legacy. As long as it happens, I won't mind anything else But there will be a lot of Aaliyah tracks IN the movie (rehearsals, important performances, video shoots - all part of her life), so her music will be promoted anyway

Thank you so much for posting

Aaliyah's attitude was immense (that little hair flip ) and of course her head voice/falsetto was flawless and effortless.Even her low register was on point back then And OF COURSE I loved the "OF COURSE I love to sing and I love to dance and act" part.Triple threat

R.I.P. Aaliyah

So amazing to see new artists paying homage to Aaliyah and acknowledging her achievements Here is JoJo's tribute to Aaliyah, she said some lovely things about her and she sang 'Are You That Somebody' and 'One In A Million'

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxE7yqnj7QM (fast forward to 11:00 if you only want to watch the Aaliyah tribute)

(Shout out to MrFenty who posted the video in JoJo's Appreciation Thread )

Timbaland just revealed that he was in love with Aaliyah

It's so great to learn new things about her life and about what impact she had in her closest friends' life.I didn't expect this

The specific bits when he talks about Aaliyah are from 17:20 to 20:00 and from 22:25 to 25:10

I really enjoyed it, it showed how much Aaliyah meant to him and how important she was for his career

Hello again

I've been listening a lot to Age Ain't Nothing But A Number, her 1994 debut, and I always wonder what happened to Tia Hawkins, who rapped on the album? She kinda just disappeared.

Did anyone catch Aaliyah Behind the Music on VH1? It's brilliant.

I thought it was great. Those tributes really help her legacy live on. I hope the posthumous release her producer hinted on Twitter will prove to be true, this would be really exciting

I agree, her brother apparently denied it but it's whatever the producer has done I guess.

And it was so much better than the BET special IMO.

Her family never approve any exciting Aaliyah projects And in most cases, whether the ideas materialize or not depends on their green light, so I'm starting to get a little frustrated.

I totally respect the fact that they're trying to protect her legacy, but a posthumous release is an excellent idea! Not as revealing and insightful as a biopic, which I get why they reject, but adequate to keep her name out there. Drake recently said that he has recorded a song with Aaliyah ( he obviously meant that he used Aaliyah's vocals) and J Dub (one of the main producers on 'ΛΛLIYΛΗ' also said the album might be released soon, so I'm optimistic.

Timbaland was a guest on 'The Breakfast Club' (a US radio show) and he pretty much confirmed that there are plans of a posthumous Aaliyah album!!
Quote:
“I know they're trying to drop some Aaliyah records. I got something that I never put out. I’m trying to get one done now just for the fans, but if [Drake wants to] do it, it should be with me and him and Missy. The best decision what the fans would want to see is all three of us. It can’t be something to make money off of ’cause I think it’s wrong to make money off the dead.””

He was also asked about what Aaliyah's place and status in the industry would be if she was still alive and responded : "I think [Aaliyah] would have been Beyoncé status ’cause she was the first one who was doing all those things.”

So excited for the album!!!

Yay!

I understand what Aaliyah's family have done because it would be wrong to cash in on Aaliyah's tragic death, but a posthomous release will be amazing!

A great read here - Diane Haughton (Aaliyah's mother) sat down with TV psychic John Edward in a private reading and seance so she could talk to Aaliyah, which John went on to release in his book.
