Recording Red Button

Have happily recorded red button programms on my Freeview Hummy, but now having recently aquired a FoxsatHDR It seems that this facility is not available, unless I have missed something?

You have to hold down the Red record button till the record icon on-screen goes solid red.

Presuming the OP means the red button interactive data streams rather than straight forward instant recording. The only way I know is to use Raydons modified firmware and the associated channel editor to add them as individual channels.

Last time I checked you could instant record the primary stream but the recording carries the name of the BBC programme you pressed the red button on.

Yes, and on Sports Multiscreen only if you hit record whist it is in 'Menu' view. i.e. before pressing the appropriate button to go to full screen.
Once you've gone full screen it's game over as far as recording is concerned, assuming you haven't modded anything on your box.

Your correct Graham, my query was about recording the interactive stream. So if what you want to record other than the primary stream its no go ? That is unless I have the modified firmware.
With the primary stream, if it identifies as the main channel program (BBC1 etc), does it take the time to end recording from the current program running on BBC1 etc.?
I guess perhaps I need to play with it.
Thanks Graham, Sooteee, and Automan for the replies.

You can only record it manually by pressing the red record button while in the opening menu, not sure what the default duration is but pressing instant record a 2nd time normally lets you change the recording duration anyway. I have not tried using the channel editor with the modified firmware so whether it's possible to set a manual recording I am not sure.

Repassac will likely know the answer to this.

Yes you can Graham. Normal procedure of selecting the blank editable schedule, the additional channels are available to apply.

If I only want to be able to record the red button and not have the HDR as a media server, do I just install Repassac's firmware?

It's raydon's and mogie's firmware.
You will only need to install the non volatile channel editor and the firmware mod then.
There are some issues with the channel editor with release 1.00.15 - but I think it will be OK in this case [toggle the hidden attribute] but not tested as yet..

OK thanks to mogie and raydon.

I updated to 1.00.15 last night so I'll sit tight for a while to see what the issues are

As a complete noob to this, is there an option during the installation process to prompt for the bits you want to install?

Also what's the hidden attribute or is that covered in another thread which I've yet to read and understand

Just place the required installs onto a usb stick and whilst the box is up and running insert the stick into the usb port. The files will hot install and then the box reboots. To confirm files have transfered they will be deleted for the stick, just pop into PC to check. Your also going to need to install an FTP pprogram, you will need this to transfer the channel_update.fcl files to and from the set top box.

Get yourself a copy of filezilla to install on your networked PC/laptop.

The compressed file had three folders and a readme.txt and the firmware patch. The Installers and Uninstallers and in separate folders and you decide what to install by moving then to the root folder of a memory stick, the .HDF must be there. Samba is the install I would rate the most useful for Windows users. Download and read the readme.txt

The windows channel editor is in the Windows folder - It is easy to work it out for yourself.

I was thinking of giving this a go too. Is there any way of finding out in advance what is going to be on which channel? Presumably there's no EPG data?

I also would like to know what will be on each stream, is there any link to the BBC which will tell you in advance, maybe an engineer's site ?
