Im looking to have a budget of around 2K shortly for a new home system.

Im looking for the following:

32" widescreen
Multiregion DVD player with record abilities
5.1 speaker system
Amp/Reciver
Scart leads
Also in the future may have Sky+ so will want to be able to record to DVD off that, as i have access to scart leads that strip out macrovision

Not sure on the makes have been a fan of Sony TV's in the past but open to suggetsions

Cheers

for surround amps, you probably can't go wrong with sony or denon. i've got a sony 1080 amp which has been great, and some of their pascal speakers (835s). the sony amps are generally raved about, with perhaps some reservations for a harshnesh of sound, but i think thats for the purists. similarly the earlier pascal speakers were panned, but the 835s faired a bit better, and, for dvds certainly they sound pretty bloody good to me. the ones that are universally rated tho' are the keff eggs.

tvs - again, we've got a sony - although its about 6 years old now. was in the sony centre recently and they had some new sets in, and black seemed to making a bit of a comeback - didn't really like them to be honest.

the higher model of the recordable sony dvd has had amazing reviews, and has come down in price form £700 to £400 in about 6 months.

i guess £800 for the tv, and £400 each for amp, speakers and dvd player?

have fun choosing!
