Anyone else not kept up this season?

It's very odd - I watched the first episode and that it was a bit ummy-ahhy, but then forgot to watch the second.

Now we're up to episode 5, I'm really thinking I should catch up, but my enthusiasm has wained for some reason. Is it worth catching up?

Please do the Doctors Wife was excellent, so was this weeks episode was good too. This series has been really strong so far. If my daughter was still up she would tell you

You know, you really want to have a comma in there, to avoid that phrase having a totally different meaning!

Don't you love my grammar when I am over tired but can't sleep. Seriously brilliant series so far, and I will not like the wait until the autumn for the other half

Well, plenty of people are bound to have that on their mind...I bet the amount of adult fiction involving the TARDIS has gone up since that episode as well

Yes but it may help to give you a very brief warning...

The first two episode are very complex because they involve a lot of missing time periods (cos everyone forgets seeing the Silence) and it's very likely that some things happened during those gaps that we won't learn about until later in the series. The second episode also contains a number of smaller features that are being re-used throughout - a bit like the "Bad Wolf" signs that kept appearing in Ecclestone's series. You need to watch them both or you may find that some of what happens in other episodes seems a bit random and odd. Basically, it sets up some series threads and mysteries. It's a bit heavy going compared to some Doctor Who but they are both beautifully filmed and if you're into sci-fi - not just DW - they are a cut above.

Episodes 3 and 4 are a bit more traditional - whole stories in one episode - but have a few links to those first episodes. Episode 3 is pretty much high-jinks - pirates and a spooky entitiy and episode 4 is one of those that shows the Doctor's emotions and contains a lot of nods to the fans who love "classic" DW from the 60's onwards.

Episode 5 is the first of a two parter and as well as needing it to make sense of next week's episode, it looks to be setting up a major cliff-hanger - because they're splitting the series in half - taking a break over summer and coming back in September.

Is it worth catching up? Personal taste (and you can guess the bias on a DW forum) but I'd honestly say yes. It's only a 45 minutes a go and there's some very good stuff in there - if only the quality of production which really stands out in 1, 2 and 4. If you ever enjoyed DW in the past - this series is either perfect or awful - it's a bit more grown up in some ways and a lot less of the mushy lovey-dovey stuff of recent years but there's a lot of good old-fashioned silliness to balance it out. And Matt Smith has really grabbed the role this year - he's turned out to be a great choice.

I'd agree with everything except this part - whether or not there's 'missing' periods of time doesn't make any difference to the story as it reads, and the little bits and pieces set up as questions to be answered may pique your interest, but will be revisited in later episodes as and when required.

Basically, watch the episodes as they are, don't worry about missing anything.

And so far, I wouldn't even say to have to watch the stories in order.

Fair comment. I wasn't trying to drag into our mania - just pointing out that episodes are already showing flashbacks to those scenes and trying to make sure that they don't appear random or meaningless (I don't think the series will even work without knowing that there are gaps in time/people's memories in those first episodes). There's running theme of returning memories which is likley to mean those flashbacks will start to include things we haven't seen yet.

Running order - 1 & 2 need to be watched in order to make any sense and 5/6 are a two parter anyway. 1 & 2 also have a big story element that only works if seen in the right order in that Amy goes from sayings she's thingy - to saying she's not thingy and then there's three months gone where the thingy should show but the other thingy says she may or may not be thingy.

(d'ya see what I did there?)

If you weren't agog to watch the second half of an excellent 2-parter, I'd say "no".

Of course, you'll miss some great TV, but that's your loss.

I'd watch episode 4, but the others don't quite work IMO.

ep1 & 2, this is pure set up for the rest of the series, lack of story, just questions still to be answered.

ep3 - very much a copy of Girl in the fireplace, but not as clever.

ep4 - excellent episode, and had hoped that it would mean dr who back on form.

ep5 - an episode full of running down corridors, and forcing Amy to take on a completely different persona, just to fit with the flimsy plotline.
