Has the BBC forgotten who Nicholas Courtney was, no dedication in the new series and then last night no dedication as part of the BAFTA’s. He was an accomplished actor who should not have been sidelined like this.

It was disgusting the way he was treated as he did a lot of work for the BBC.

I agree. A disgraceful ommission.

I'm sure we could find many more actors who died last year, that weren't included.

There's 1036 on this list from 2011 alone. I bet there's many UK TV actors on there.

Why they couldn't have done a joint clip of Liz Sladen and him I don't know. Shocking omission.

I am annoyed about this i must say there has not even been a "dedicated to" thing before an episode

rather poor showing by the beeb

I think there was one of these, was it not on a SJA episode as he'd been seen more recently in that than Who proper?

I'm beginning to wonder if his family have asked the BBC to not mention it because they don't want any fuss. It seems bizarre that it's not been mentioned at all

I hope this is the case.

The thing is that he was such a great character/person who was not only in a huge amount of great eps but also very active on the confrences and things

I agree, which is why I'm more and more convinced that this is the case, a shame really as a tribute of some kind would be a nice thing to acknowledge his enormous contribution to the programme.

More than that-he was an accomplished TV and film actor who was pretty much constantly in work from the late 1950's onwards, and served on the board of Equity, the actor's union for years. He deserved far more recognition than he got.

The BBC have always been good at replying to any concerns - even if it's the answer I wasn't expecting. Just waiting to hear back about this now... if there was a specific reason why there hasn't been any dedication etc..

So what? Loads of B list/ C list actors have done the same and got no Bafta Obituary,

Outside of the Doctor Who community, he was just not that well known or influential. Thats why he wasn't recognised!

Nothing to do with snubs or forgetting him. When he was mentioned on the main BAFTA thread last night most people didn't have a clue who he was.

I must admit I think you're right,

As has already been pointed out, sadly many, many tv related people die in a year and only so many can be recognised in a BAFTA awards ceremony.

But she's the star of a current and highly popular mainstream childrens tv programme, surely you can see the difference between her and Nick.....

And before that she was an actress who struggled for work far more than Courtney did. He did more regular work than her when he was semi-retired. Whether you compare their body of work inside or outside DW, Courtney's is the bigger.

But Liz is definitely more well known to the general public, her death was even given it's own report on the news.

That's true and that popular awareness alone entitles her to her acknowledgement. But the size of Courtney's body of work and what he gave to the industry and audiences should entitle him to an acknowledgement. The BAFTA sequence included loads of people I'd never heard of, but I'm sure they were worthy.

I think its very sad, he was a legend but sadly, outside of the Who circle he wasn't that well known. I said this before, bit an unusual thing occurred, the death of two DW icons within weeks of each other and just before the new series. I'm afraid Lis was just that little more high profile.

Having met the enourmous personality that was Nick COurtney, he has a place in my heart and memories no thanks to the BBC.

Hi Ting, welcome back You here to stay for a while?
